Scratching the Surface | Update 36.4

We’ve overhauled the underlying architecture of our surface simulation of oceans and atmospheres. This is part of a larger ongoing effort to provide a stronger foundation for new features and performance enhancements. You can also edit barycenter positions and velocities, and explore the newly reorganized Simulation panel.

New Surface Simulation Framework
We rebuilt our surface simulation and material tracking in Universe Sandbox with the Data-Oriented Technology Stack (DOTS) from Unity, the game engine we use to build Universe Sandbox. This is part of our long-term plan to move our simulation systems to DOTS to improve performance and build a foundation for new features. You shouldn’t notice any changes in how object surfaces are simulated. Learn more.

More Highlights
Edit the position and velocity of barycenters to change the orbital parameters of all associated objects easily. You can also create binary barycenter systems to build hierarchical systems.

The Simulation panel has been reorganized into tabs that split up the settings, making them easier to find.

We’ve improved the minimized object properties panel to be less obtrusive and more flexible, especially when selecting multiple objects.

We’ve added support for Brazilian Portuguese. Help us improve our translations.
