Hiring a Tester

Please see our updated job post for this position.

Giant Army is looking for a part-time video game/simulation tester to join our team. You should be familiar with Universe Sandbox ², and interested in helping us find and fix bugs as we continue development. You will work independently to regularly test our builds and write up bug reports, then work with the team to ensure they’ve been fixed.

You will need a keen eye and love of science, the ability to write clearly, and a desire to rigorously test Universe Sandbox ².

This is an hourly, contract position.

Join us… we’re making something incredible that’s never been done before.

64965164eb4040ed43c35c75550bd29f46a73748

Your Role

  • Create a comprehensive list of features to test and their expected results, and update it as we add new features
  • Use this list to regularly review our internal builds to make sure we haven’t broken anything
  • Review the forums and feedback to identify user-reported bugs
  • Verify that the bug occurs and write a clear description and reproduction steps (so it’s very easy for our developers to identify the issue without spending time figuring it out)
  • Post bugs to our internal Trello board
  • Communicate with our developers on Slack to help squash bugs
  • Verify that tasks, new features, and bug fixes completed by our developers are, in fact, completed

 Ideal Candidate

  • Has already spent many hours exploring Universe Sandbox ² and loves it… and has spotted a bug or two
  • Has experience with/insight into software testing and methodology, and knows what developers are looking for
  • Maintains a flexible schedule which allows for varying hours (depending on where we are in development cycle)
  • Owns both a Windows and a Mac machine and maybe even a Linux machine

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Ability to write clear descriptions and reproduction steps for bugs in English
  • Detail-oriented and an eye for noticing when things aren’t quite right
  • Intuition about science and how our simulations should work
  • Must own a Windows or Mac machine

Company Overview

Giant Army is the company behind Universe Sandbox ². Our headquarters are in Seattle, Washington, USA, with team members across the United States and in Germany and Denmark.

Team members enjoy a flexible, collaborative environment. We strive for work-life balance, and we pursue the features that get us excited about science. We do the work so that we can share that with others. We’re also committed to creating an accessible experience that can’t be found elsewhere.

Science is for everyone, and we welcome all qualified applicants.

Product Overview

Universe Sandbox ² is a space simulator that merges real-time gravity, climate, collision, and material interactions to reveal the beauty of our universe and the fragility of our planet. It’s more than a game; it’s a way of experiencing and learning about reality in a way that’s never been done before. Early access now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

I found a bug with orbits: when you position 2 or more perfectly orbiting (equidistant to their neighbor) biddies in a perfect binary+ orbit and put a perfectly centered other body in the center (using the position settings in the motion tab) after a while it is attracted to the body it was closest to when you first placed it (note: all the placement and velocity change is done while paused). That is the bug.

I would like to help you test your video game out. I have noticed a few bugs in the game and I would like to help point it out for you. I am 12 years old, I am a artists, I live in Florida, and i’m good at video games. The most appealing part about the opportunity is that It would be a honor to work as a video game tester. Some of the bugs in the game are: when I launch a planet at another planet sometimes the planet launches/bounces away from the target, and the game sometimes freezes. I originally heard about this job when I was play universal sandbox and a ad talking about the job so I clicked on it to learn more. I will be available on Friday afternoons and the entire weekend.

    Hello to whomever reads this,

I am interested in being a tester for Universe Sandbox^2. I am a teenager almost out of high school and enjoy playing universe sand box to test different things. I like it for its detail and I believe that I could help make it better. I am good at taking clean concise notes that could be of benefit to the game building and improving process.

    Sincerely,
    Max Driftmier

I have sent in the email, it has my resume, and information attached. What might be the predicted time that all the requests will be looked at? If one has not been accepted yet that is.

I am already very invested into studying physics, that including space, and have a good understanding of Newtonian physics involving motion and gravity. It would just be incredible to be a part of such a game that I already enjoy, and be able to influence it.

Hello! I would absolutely LOVE to test your game, Universe Sandbox 2! I love the idea of being able to create and destroy universes to your will, and would spend much time testing and writing comprehensive reports about things that could be added, fixed,or things that are already spot-on! One problem, though. I’m not 18 yet, so I don’t have a resume. I could probably whip one up fast, but I would like to know if that step is absolutely necessary. If not, please fell free to contact me at gangstagrampa@gmail.com. Thank you for your time.

when i try to place a black hole with tons of stars around it the black hole dissapears when i reload the simulation, can you add the galaxy from the milky way simulation so u could actualy place it, i would like to be a developer i like this game a bit more than the other games even more than terraria wich is also good, can u add more types of stars and visably aging stars that leave nutron stars or black holes with the same mass of the star that is left behind when the stars explode and a better super nova that has all of those explosins and debree flying out and gamma rays and all those real stuff, it will be 100000000000 x better if you add these
