i made sum here
the poles will be a bit distorted until i can figure out how to achive that polar distortion without messing up the texture

these were made with nothing but gimp and photoshop, where it is impossible to apply the right distortion. These will all look strange near the poles when you use them, i suggest using textures from this topic :P

The polar distortion doesn't really matter: at the moment, even if you make a properly distorted texture, it will look like a mess at the poles. US3 might be more accurate at high latitudes, though.

Just a general GIMP note:

I see a lot of use of the solid noise / difference clouds filter. While this filter works fine for making bands of clouds for gas giants, with terrestrial planets the "plasma" filter usually works better, as long as you make the plasma seamless.

actually i've managed to get the textures so that even at the poles, it looks smooth :)
Just use one of the planet generators instead of trying polar coordinates or whatever in image manip progs.

And cloud planets are fine to make in gimp/paint/photoshop, those are nice:)
