Filters in the premium version...help please.
« on: September 07, 2011, 01:32:20 PM »
The goal is to locate six sol-like stars at roughly 50 light years.  Using the demo version, I ran the Nearest 300 simulation.  It's sooooo close to being what I really need.

1) is there a filter on the premium that restricts displayed stars within a light year range to the focus object (in the case, the sun)?

2) is there any info about spectral type at all?

3) is Sparks, NV the capital of Montana?

no
i suggest, that you download one of the many star catalogues around, and then use Cntrl-F or whatever else works to do this
might be simpler

no spectral type, but shows the color of star? does that count

no to everything elase

except 3

Can you link to one?  I've been looking at them all afternoon, but haven't found anything with basic x,y,z coordinates and distances.  Sure, I've been able to get distances using the parallax, but without the relative positions to Sol, it's kinda useless.

Color me stupid (or maybe it's the ADD kicking in), but a) I can't open the databases they provide links to a b) don't see how that helps.  I appreciate the link to the website, but possibly I'm not looking at the same links on that page that you are.  Can you be more specific?

Aside from that I messed around for a couple of hours last night with the sandbox.  Extremely cool tool.

um if you have winrar or something like that it should work, just click on the first link HYG 2.0 and it should download it.
then open the file and there is a spreadsheet in it
