Test your computer with US2 !
« on: September 29, 2014, 10:44:50 AM »
Okay, here is a small test for the ones who own US2.
Create a new simulation then place the earth.
Click the "ring" button and choose "number of particles", 5000 and "number of bodies", 100. Then click "add ring". Keep adding rings, and keep count of how many ring you could add before your game became unplayable.
For me, I could add 17 rings until it became really unplayable.
Say your score in the comments !
Also, zoom very close to the Earth.
Stop when your fps are less than 5 fps.

Seems like it could be used to bully about computer power, but I'll try it out when I get the chance.

I was able to do it 75 times until it was completely unplayable. And by unplayable, I mean 4.83 fps unplayable.

Generally, I don't let US2 drop below 10 fps, but when I want to push what the sandbox can do, dipping below that is okay. In fact, when I paused the simulation, it gave me a few more frames, which was about 6.50 to 7.00 fps. Just enough to still move the camera, albeit, real slow.

Thanks. :)

I can get more ring particles with "Number of Bodies" set at 0, and only adding rings. This time, I tried that, and I was able to go 150 times before it literally crashed my game. I had to do a hard close on the game, but I was able to get a screenshot of what it looked like.

At the time of freezing, I had 3.30 fps. lol

I had absolutely nothing open on my computer except for UBox2. The amount of clicks until the game became unplayable is about 25, and until complete crash is 300. Here's a little timeline of what happened.

5 clicks: Started getting slow; FPS at about 45.

18 clicks: FPS at 20, game barely playable.

25 clicks: Game completely unplayable, FPS at 10.

75 clicks: No reaction from game. Only things that still work are buttons, not text boxes. FPS alternating between 3.00 and 3.02

150 clicks: Entire computer starts slowing down; when trying to open something else, it takes 15-30 secs.

200 clicks: Minimize, maximize, and close buttons on top right of window stop working. FPS Still at 3

300 clicks: Entire computer freezes. No reactions. Had to unplug my computer because could not shut down.

I took a screenshot at about 100-150 clicks:

Tested on my PC, game died at around 20 clicks, but hasn't crashed. I'm at over 110 clicks now, but I'm too lazy to see the limit

After about 75 clicks, the game barely respond to your click, so most of our click #'s are wrong...
