Ratings?

I was wondering... Maybe the forum can have stuff like a like/dislike option for posts/threads, and a button for whether the thread was helpful or not.

I think such a thing would probably get used in personal fights, where people who don't like each other go about rating each other's threads down, rather than basing it on what is good content or not. The upvotes might be used in a similar way, but forums like the Minecraft forum do have upvote buttons for posts, and I think they might be a good idea (but they would be mostly just for fun).

A downvote button would just a cheap way to publicly say "I don't like what you wrote" without stating a reason, but if posts actually go against the rules there's still a report to moderator button. I think that button is better than a downvote button.

there could just maybe be a like button or something to say that a post was good or funny

karma based on users is probably a bad idea

I think the Like button would be just as useless as the one on Facebook.  I don't understand the point of people in forums and Facebook, etc. that essentially might as well speak in boolean logic.

Well actually a like button would encourage posters and tell them what kind of posts they want to see.

ok, I just don't think the point of posting is to post simply what people want to hear.

I just don't think that can be conveyed in a meaningful way by a Like button.  To each his own.

Well on imgur, you can favorite a picture that you like. It's not useless because favorited pictures are kept in a gallery of pictures that you like, so you can always look at them again to your desire.

imo I don't think the like button on Facebook is useless. It shows a sign of approval among others...

You can copy and paste quotes from posts now and store them for latter viewing if you wanted to.

Fine. No dislike button, but a like button would just be fun to have.

Interguild has both positive and negative karma, and nobody bases their worth on their karma.

No it actually happened, and got pretty far, but I made the mistake of including phinehas.

Maybe just an "Approve" button would work out...

I've got it: an acknowledged button, and a label to who acknowledged it, so people won't have to keep putting one word posts to reply to question answers.
