Electromagnetism vs Gravity!
« on: April 14, 2012, 07:52:35 AM »
Electromagnetism is a stronger force then Gravity ( I think) you can test this if you get a Magnet and magnetic metal ( such as iron, steel, nickel e.t.c ) and let the magnet pull the metal towards it, from a short distance. Now pick the magnet up carefully. the metal should still be hanging on too the magnet. Thus the metal isn't falling because electromagnetism is stronger then Gravity!

While is it true that electromagnetism is stronger than gravity, gravity has special properties that make it important too. First, gravity interacts with anything that has mass, it's the only force that interacts with dark matter i think. In addition, it can never be deflected or blocked, unlike electromagnetism. Gravity has infinite range, like electromagnetism. Gravity always attracts, and never repels (except i saw a video by brian greene and the fabric of the cosmos that explained inflation as gravity repelling, but idk).

Adding more, while electromagnetism and strong/weak nuclear forces dominate particle physics, gravity is stronger when it comes to larger-scales, after all, the universe's shape is largely determined by gravity

Kol, new posts in this thread for some reason.
Isn't electromagnetism something like 10^14 times stronger than gravity?

10^36 actually.

I'll find you a harder source if wikipedia isn't enough for you.

There is a table listing the relative strengths of the four fundamental forces.
