Can't install .NET

I got the Steam version of Universe Sanbox, and when I try starting it, it does the usual stuff. Then, it gets to the part where I have to get .NET. It starts downloading and installing, then when I get to the end, it says:

.NET Framework has not been installed because:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.


Thats the only problem I'm currently having. Some help would be great.

I posted this same issue over on the Steam forum (obviously I installed via Steam), but thought I'd get more help over here on the "official" forums.  I am having a .net error on the initial install.

I've made several tries to install the game and cannot get it to work.   Have uninstalled .net framework and reinstalled the full version downloaded from Microsoft then applied an update from Windows Update. Restarted at each step. Ran as administrator and through Steam.
It won't run and gives me the error saying I need Microsft .net framework Version 4.0.30319.
This is the version I already have.  (running Windows 7 home premium, Intel i7, 6 gigs RAM)

Still no luck getting game to work.
Ideas?

Sounds like your .NET installation is bugged, this is a pretty rare thing, but it does happen.

I have gone to those links, the same as above.  I re-installed my .net and still the same thing.  I ran the verifier and it says there is an error but my level of knowledge has already been far exceeded and the logfile generated is complete gibberish to me....

Is there something that would cause my .net to be installed with bugs twice and had been bugged before that?  Seems odd.

Also, following the other thread as well and suggestions above, I created another user in Windows and tried that method.  Same thing, except the error wasn't as specific about what version of .net I needed, just that I require version 4.0.

Can you post the portion of the verifier that says there's an error? Or save it as a text file and attach it to a post here?

If you're getting an error with the verifier, that's likely why Universe Sandbox isn't working.

Thank you for the response.
I have ran the suggested cleanup tool and the logfile for that says all is fine.
I then installed the .net framework again and get the same erorr, unable to play the game because it is looking for version 4.0.313019, which I have.
So I ran the verify program again just to be able to post a most recent logfile.
Here is the saved log. The logfile is so big I can't post all of it, so have cut out the hundreds and hundreds of lines of repetitive stuff saying that xxxxxx is installed on the system (not even sure if that is important or not) and can't post an attachment.  I have only posted the parts of the logfile that are different than the installed list.  I hope this can shed some light on what is going on.
