Customize The Colors of Gas Giants and Stars
« on: January 16, 2018, 03:07:19 PM »
The ability to customize the colors of terrestrial planets is something that I really like. I just want the developers do be able to do much, much more for color customization for celestial objects. Universe Sandbox 2 currently lacks the ability to customize the colors of gas giants and stars. I want to be able to customize the colors of gas giants and stars, even with presets like Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus and the Sun.

There is an amazing YouTuber which I always watch his newly uploaded Universe Sandbox 2 videos about his universal creations. He also wants to be able to customize the colors of gas giants and stars like many of us really want. His YouTube channel name is called "Neptunian Guy". Watch his videos here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrpHX8sE5kMk9U8zJ5hAWSw

YouTuber, "Neptunian Guy" also found many bugs in Universe Sandbox 2 which I have previously reported. He is such a huge fan of Universe Sandbox 2, like me, and also a huge fan of customizing colors of planets.

Update 21 is just around the corner. I hope that Update 21 will add the possibility to change the colors of gas giants and stars so that we can all experience a much better Universe Sandbox 2 customization experience for celestial objects. In addition to that, I would also like to customize the colors of galaxies.

Color customization for gas giants and stars are very, very important. This is an update that we need in Universe sandbox 2 as soon as possible. Other people are claiming this suggestion as well.

First, the top image is the sun in false color representing, if I remember correctly, seeing it in X-ray radiation. Stars with their blackbody radiation's peak frequency at that of the color green appear white, and completely white. "Why? White is a different color!" you might say, but the thing about that is that that is only the peak frequency the star emits, aka the one it emits the most of, but because of the way the blackbody radiation works, distributing the "frequency curve" over many frequencies that together we call white, so although the sun emits mostly green, we don't see a green star when we look up in the sky, we see a white one. Therefore we don't have green stars in US2 (yet) because it's not exactly realistic (barring having a star with a very strange chemical composition but that wouldn't really make sense until we can add the elements that might make it do that)

Second, they plan to add these things anyway (they even said so in their roadmap) so...why request a feature they've already confirmed to be made happen one day?

Third, most of these things are very present and very fixed in UNiverse Sandbox Legacy. If you refuse to use US2 in its current state because of the bugs not being immediately fixed (which is something that literally cannot happen without the development process taking much too long. Sometimes its best to leave a bug be for a while since it doesn't break anything's functionality and so that you don't have to completely re-debug it whenever you do add features that do break things) then just forget about the higher visual and in some cases physics computation quality in US2 and use US Legacy. Let the devs do their thing, they'll do it better if you do.

The picture of the green Sun that I have posted is an example of what it would be like to customize the colors of stars. The images of gas giants posted above are examples of what gas giants would look like if used customize them with custom colors. For example, let's create a green gas giant in Universe Sandbox 2.

In Alpha 19.5, the ability to customize the colors of terrestrial planets were added to Universe Sandbox 2 for the very first time. That was an amazing feature that added lots of pizzazz to the customizations of terrestrial planets.

When Update 21 comes out soon, I hope that developers would make it possible to customize the colors of gas giants by having three colors for elevation. On high, medium and low elevation, gas giants would be customized by color modification by coloring bands of material rotating clockwise and counterclockwise like the gas giant Jupiter.

For stars, the differentiations of the color pigments would involve customizing the colors of dots with different luminosity, such as Sun spots or other types of low, medium and high elevation luminosity.

By having a feature that can jazz up the appearance of gas giants and stars by customizing their colors based on low, medium and high elevation would really make Universe Sandbox 2 a more customizable and versatile universe simulator for everybody. So, in other words, spicing up the color customization of Universe Sandbox 2 is something which is very important.

I hope that the "Roadmap for 2018" will add an update to "customize the colors of gas giants and stars", just to let people know when this highly demanded feature is expected to arrive in Universe Sandbox 2 once it for all.
