Title: My first system, Binary Stars
Post by: racerguy76 on May 22, 2011, 01:37:04 PM
I made this by adding more and more stars in hopes that it would settle into a stable system. I know, not very scientific, but they system has been stable now for almost 10000 years.

Eta Canine has a diameter of 34AU

VW Canis Major 5 has a diameter of 22.9AU and orbits every 11.9 years

Pretty cool! Try selecting both an clicking "Balance Selected", it'll stop them from moving through space :)

Thanks!

I did like the idea of it hurtling through space, but I also like learning new things.

The two stars in the first message are in stable orbits, it's just that their velocities are such that they are moving relative to the fixed background (absolute space).

In reality, two stars that close would exhibit drag on each other and would most likely, eventually, collide.
