plus grasslands can basically be in any climate you want (except desert or tundra) because farming gets rid of forests and then herders/farmers may continue to work to keep the region a grassland instead of a forest

Yeah and neither can I trust my geology. I can always refine it no matter what, but I have to stop somewhere when it becomes realistic enough for me. I don't expect we can make anything perfect, but I don't think that's a justifiable reason to just do whatever and throw away all geological realism.
As said I already explained my view on it and I just don't agree with the way you put it. If you're interested in a discussion about this, go here:
http://universesandbox.com/forum/index.php/topic,15052.msg151634.html#msg151634
I'm not going to discuss it again and I don't even see why one would bother with that now, when I'm offering to consider moving the country.

Do you mean you want a situation where we can give you a map of what we think the climates should be based off of meteorology, and that you can then edit it to a reasonable degree because god knows what it would exactly be anyways? If so, that's fine.
I suppose some iterations would work, where you do some simulations, I adjust position and some details, and simulations are repeated until the result is ok. Or just position it according to pic below and consider adjustments from there.

We were really unsupportive of you trying to make northern Blaland forest (pre-move) because that pushed what we thought it would be via meteorology (very arid, basically desert or scrub-land) way too far. By comparison, changing a few hundred kilometres worth of taiga to deciduous forest is a much smaller jump and honestly I doubt anyone would care. I understand you don't want another argument, so I'm just going to explain the rationale behind our side and leave it there.
Judging from this
http://universesandbox.com/forum/index.php/topic,6014.msg149524.html#msg149524
It looks like it's the central part that's more arid, and that's also the most important part to keep supportive of forests and good agriculture. Basically the orange part. I don't know if that's still what your climate models say. I also am ok with having some taiga in the south but I'd rather not have a lot of tundra.

I'm not sure what you mean by a bit further north. I think it'd be easier to just specify what climate you want the important regions to have.
This is roughly my preferred distribution and the most important areas are marked in red.

climate sims are fun, they don't require actual hours of working to mesh gradients properly and estimate and interpolate back and forth, especially if you want a quantitative result like rainfall or geopotential height or something rather than a qualitative "temperate forest", since the computer just does math for you

so after i set up my image grabber on my website (so i don't have to keep windows open 24/7) i'll look into running climate sims on linux

aquilegia
where'd you get that name from

off topic but I don't get why you and aquilegia are so obsessed with climate sims when we have guides made by people that are plenty realistic enough to follow, for example:

http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=27118
Me or are you talking to others in that post?

sorta aimed at you but now that I think about it, it'd have been better to make it a general question
I'm not obsessed with climate sims.
The only reason I've mentioned them at all is because people weren't satisfied with my climate and I assumed that was based on simulations, but it's the results I care about (concerning my nation) and not the method (of course if the method is flawed that's pretty bad but not something I'll be troubleshooting and fixing).

rough guide to blaland at 40 to 70 degrees south, elevation is taken into account

note that grasslands can be created by human cultivaiton and farming, especially the "mixed forest and grasslands" vegetation type

Thanks, I think the 35-65 deg location could work. Although I'm worried about the climate around the point connecting the inner water areas to the sea, which looks like it would be frozen for much of the year?

pretty much the only reason that area is tundra is because the winds in the arctic tend to blow towards the south (so in blaland's case towards the north), which would create a climate where it can get above freezing any time of year. sea ice in the southern hemisphere on universalis might not be very prevalent, reaching its maximum some time around september and entirely disappearing or remaining in a small pocket between blaland's southern peninsula and issagga's tail by december, coming back by april

EDIT: i used northern hemisphere months for the southern hemisphere gg me

Temporary layer with Blaland's possible new location 15 deg further south. My idea is that I make some small countries around the borders that border the sea or Issagga, so that I can keep the old borders of the old countries. That would mean the old nations bordering Blaland would have to revise their borders though, otherwise there would be exact copies of borders in two places, which would be odd. Hellpotatoe would also have to accept the new location and how the blending land would be drawn.

my proposal is that a bit of land is added south of sagua, making it look better and having a channel of water between blaland and sagua (if there was no channel, the north would be drier) and also hellpotatoe isn't really around anymore to say yes or no so I think fiah should be the one to edit that area

slightly relevant

i grabbed this from skype cause it was easier so yes it's a picture of my computer screen

if we can figure out a way to input a 128x64 surface (there are surface files) that represents universalis we might be able to simulate something decent

i still haven't done a lot yet, like letting it run for a few years, or postprocessing the data (which might allow for different plots than the ones that are available to run during simulation)

from what i've been able to tell, it's pretty legit, the surface pressure plot looks a bit wonky but then again... so is surface pressure. zonal winds look right, though idk how it compares to a real earth zonal wind plot, precipitable water looks pretty legit though

questions? suggestions? ideas?

i'm going to look into different models and see if i can get them running (WRF, GFDL) some for personal interest (such as simulating TCs) but most likely they won't be as easy to input a universalis into
