Yeah, pressing T and having the SAS module does the trick. Tried to add another stage to it and forgot to add more booster rockets, however ditching the first stage worked. Until I tried to ditch the second stage when the decoupler somehow failed and caused the rocket to spin on the end of the parachute. The stage eventually broke off, but so did the parachute, heh. I'll work on adding boosters later and investigate the faliure point between the last stage and the command module.

Haven't achieved full orbit yet, but doing pretty good  sub-orbital flights, Mercury program style.

And yes, I've generally done safe landings unless something goes horribly wrong, like the above.

Also, I think I read somewhere on the wiki or about addons about the heat shield, but I haven't seen any of the atmospheric heating that happens on re-entry, just wondering. I did orient the heat shield as it entered the atmosphere though just in case.

KSO, or the Kerbil space observatory. Launched with only 4 engines and two stages, this telescope cost a fraction of what the NDSP.

Top speed was 9 m/s

achieved orbit around Kerbol

the telescope had to be moved from planetary orbit to avoid glare from the planet and sun.

when you got low to the moon, you should've killed your horizontal velocity and let gravity take over.

Yeah I'm glad for the crew system because then I can stock up every pod instead of the game just filling the base pod.

been focusing on Eve recently, easier to get to as it's inside Kerbin's orbit, so it moves faster and gives more windows, imo. first I got a Voyager-like probe in orbit, but it's very elliptical and the sensors aren't able to collect any data. Second, I got a Kerbal to walk on Eve. Unfortunately, Jebediah's not coming back home.
Oh well, there's more where he came from.

stage 2: the brown part is 4 liquid engines
stage 3: brown + 3 white, another 4 liquid engines
stage 4: white, single liquid engine
payload: everything above that, contains space station, habitation module, solar panels, nosecone, parachutes, etc.

this one is just like this, but i took off a fuel tank since it's not needed and added 12 probes.

You can't use a parachute to land on the Mun. :P

It's for the return trip, obviously.

Here is my first ship, it uses the skipper engine and while the thing CAN make it to orbit, there is barely any fuel for going anywhere and I have to use the maneuvering jets often to get the ship back to the ground.

Trials for a cruiser like ship that can be parked in kerbin orbit, stocked up with fuel and lander craft, then sent off to different planets. Then, brought back into orbit and restocked.
Powered by two 400 thrust nuclear engines from the Lack Luster Labs pack, and built using a cockpit and body parts from the Aerospace mod pack. Currently though it's lacking in fuel, the structure parts that make up the body come with integrated fuel tanks but it might not be enough for long trips.
