Not sure how. Nothing can really be posted on most of them.

There is something called hacking.. I think.

Hacking a government site? I don't think that's a smart idea.

Why not? Just pop into starbucks and hack in. Or better yet, maybe you will sacrifice yourself for your country and do it at home. Just post some piratebay torrent links there, and you're able to take down usa.gov

Black hat hacking is illegal.

Yes, I had to be specific. Black hat hacking (the bad hacking) is actually called cracking. White hate hacking (the good hacking) is called hacking.

GET YOUR TERMS RIGHT!

Whether its a good hacking or not, just hacking a goverment site can still get you into trouble.

Anyways, the big ones probably aren't vulnerable, but what about USGS and others? Even they can have ads.

No, I was just telling you to use cracking instead of hacking when it's bad.

"Good" and "bad" are subjective terms.

Maybe a better alternative is: "White hat hacking is when you attempt to hack to improve security."

Not sure what everyone is talking about but I do hope this bill is shredded and burned.

I'm pretty sure the only ones for it are very stupid people, major corporations, and very stupid congresspeople.

You mean all of them?   :D

Seriously though, I see this as doing the crash and burn, but I'm not 100% certain it will.  I still have trouble accepting the Supreme Court's decision in the Citizens United case that basically came to the conclusion that corporations are people (and what's crazier still was that the Dems on the bench were the ones who made that decision).  If this does pass (and who knows? it may), I don't see the internet as dying, but many sites will remove their forums or simply remove the hyperlink options from their posting abilities.  I shudder to think what happens to Google, Bing and Yahoo, though, if they can't link to pages with copyrighted materials.  How's a search engine supposed to work without links?

Although if it does happen, at least Facebook and Twitter will be returned to their roots, and the corps sponsoring this bill will get a healthy serving of umble pie when their favourite mass market ad machines collapse on them.

A few others are also participating, CNN said that some european sites had already started the blackout, I believe Reddit is participating, not sure who else.

The SOPA question got asked in the debate and at least all of the candidates are rational about it and don't support it.

I approve as well, only thing though is that will enough people do it so that it doesn't just register as an insignificant blip?

Also, they (the supporters of SOPA) started doing a commercial right after the blackout protest in support of it. TBH, the commercial looks more like what will happen if SOPA is passed......

Still, the blackout and protest was enough to catch the attention of congress big time, two senators even did a 180 from being in favor of it.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were just dishonest populists who change their opinions to whatever people want them to, and don't care the slightest about what is going on.

The only way it'll catch attention is if we assume it will, and follow it, and spread it. I don't have a problem following it, since I don't watch/buy/pirate movies or music. I do subscribe to a science magazine, I'm not sure if that counts as "buying" in this case... I guess it does. Then there are the games, which I do buy sometimes, but I wouldn't have a problem waiting a month.

I don't think it would be that hard to make a "Black March" personally, but maybe it's different for other people?
Also, since it'll show up on their reports for three months, we could start now to double our effects. :P
