Kol. I know you can't test it. Well there's a thing called MCNostalgia or something where you can download older versions of MC, so you could do it using that.
But my point is just, that to claim food useage has increased, you will need to test or compare it, whether it's possible or not.

if you had 20 chest carts
=about 35000 items
then it takes 10 minutes to travel from farm to town and back
=0.0017 seconds per item of transport
farm rate assuming sprinting rate and 80% pick up rate
=0.0744 seconds per sugarcane to farm
so it takes almost 50 times more effort to farm sugarcane and transport it, i don't think building the farm next to villiage is necesssary

but keeping all the paper people will be less easy.

i would use coal to smelt too, so keep mining it? also i finished 2/4 slopes of the quarry so far (cutting them at a slant so they don't look like cliffs).

The problem is that coal ristricts how much iron and other things I can mine when splunking. It takes a lot of inv space. Although I usually do smelt the iron into blocks now.
