Atomic sim add-on
« on: April 30, 2012, 11:40:26 AM »
Hi Everyone, I'm new, just signed up..

How difficult would it be to emulate atoms in the sim? They really are not that far from the current planetary as far as physical design.  Of course I'm not talking about atom to atom interactions, as that would require immense processing, just modeling atoms, and their subatomic constituents.

Well, you can customize textures and place the objects wherever. There was a thread about an atomic/molecule simulator but i can't seem to find it.

I believe the dark-matter version of the Universe Sandbox forum (atomic/molecule simulator thread) came in to contact with that thread.

I would love to see some particle physics.

We have that with the dust. Not sure if it is particle physics per se, but yea....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but It appears that the particles simply interact with bodies, and not other dust "particles". I like it this way, but for atomic simulations it won't do

Dust particles have no mass and exert no gravity. They're a single point only collide with objects, yes.

Besides, Ubox deals with gravity and it's at scales where particle physics wouldn't neccesarily apply.

Still though, a mode which deals with micro (or atomic) scale physics would be cool.

Welcome to the forums and good question.

While atoms are often depicted like miniature solar systems, this is not how atoms really work.

At the bottom of this list are two atom visualization simulations:

... where you can see some screenshots.

No plans at the moment to add this feature anytime soon.
