I think it's to do with villager AI counting on doors to define what applies as a house or something.

True, but it goes by the number of doors in the area, even if, I think, they aren't technically accessable by the testificates.

@Hellpotatoe, I don't think Bla wants THAT many in the village, or spawntown even.

Theres a random portal someone made near mine which leads to a random cave somewhere, but that's not it.
