No, because you can mine safely at that level like this:

step 1:
Code: [Select]
█ █ █ █
█ █ █ █
█ █ █ █
█ █ █ █

step 2:
Code: [Select]
█ █ █ █
█ █ █
█ █ █ █
█ █ █ █

step 3:
Code: [Select]
█ █ █ █
█ █
█ █ █ █
█ █ █ █

step 4:
Code: [Select]
█ █ █ █
█ █
█ █ █
█ █ █ █

step 5:
Code: [Select]
█ █ █ █
█ █
█ █
█ █ █ █

Repeat over and over. Also this is a side view.

The lava might flow in slowly so you might die anyway. I don't consider a 3% or so increase in ore density enough to risk it. level 12 is best level

If you want to meet up with blamine though, use head level 11

Do you have any idea how far away Kaeshar is from Spawntown and blamine?

Also, cafe quarry de-sandification 99% complete, the remaining is whatever is on the side and bottom of the bodies of water that are along the edge of the quarry and one corner of it.

It was a rhetorical question. :P

While its about 2/3rds to 3/4ths of a kilometer away on the x axis, its over a kilometer on the z axis.

What tunnel spacing does the Spawntown mine use? I can't decide whether a spacing of two or three would be best. I know a spacing of two blocks ensures 100% coverage though. I'm going for efficiency I guess, so I dunno, three blocks?

I think I'll just do a spacing of three blocks and I'll take a look myself what spacing the Spawntown mine uses. I'm thinking of using a variant of this or maybe just branch mining.

Also, the spawntown mine is at head height 14.

spawntown is spacing of two blocks which is best for mining all possible ore. I suggest 3 or 4 spaces in between because ore is rarely 1 block wide. If you don't like caves, keep it to 3 block spacing, but if you don't care and want ore, digging tunnels 5 blocks appart to search for caves is probably the most productive method

Maybe I'll go with 4 block wide spacing. I used 3 or 4 block spacing (I'll have to check) for the mining tunnels outward from the quarry with a good success rate. Although those tunnels are at a higher y level. In that case, I'll go with branch mining with a north and a south main branch.

but you'll cover twice as much area....

so that is a net efficiency of 2*0.75=1.5 times of mining every two spaces

I'm thinking of doing it 3 blocks apart, I had good success with that when I did it with the mining tunnels outwards from the quarry. Even though those were more in the area of 50, 40.

I also want to minimize the amount of cobblestone, I have LOADS of it scattered around already.

make reverse quarries; random 16x16 (or similar sized) rectangular cobble pillars going up to the sky.

jk :P

anyway, more cobblestone is always good, but really, to optimize ore, spelunking is way faster than mining ever will be unless you have a large supply of enchanted diamond picks. 5 spaces apart allows for better cave finding, althought too wide is bad because you might miss them, and more than 5 spaces makes for too much walking. 4 works too and so does 3 though. If i had to redo my branch mines i'd do them 4 or 5 spaces apart, because two often have i done a branch and discovere that i have mined most of the ore from one side already

inb4 you find that Bla has moved all of it except 1 to the collective storage.

4 spaces apart seems like a good middle ground. I've heard zombie noises at one point, so I know there are caves in the area, or lava pools.

I suspect that there is a ravine running along the main corridor because at one point I hit water and when I took a brief look (VERY brief, like a few seconds), it looked like a very open space. I'll return later with some jackolanterns so I can see the immediate area better (I might turn on clear water, but I don't think that will help much when the only source of light is the jackolantern anyway. Besides, its my mine and I can do what I want with it.)

Clear water is unlegit, according to bla, so don't use it.

I just want to see what the chamber is. I don't even have it on normally.

Also, heres a non-attacking zombie for the lulz. I have no idea how it happened, I was just standing there with MC being an inactive window and a couple minutes ago I heard a zombie noise, looked ingame and there it was. It was just standing there waving its arms and not attacking. I was in between a torch and the wall and when I moved, it did attack. Just some random glitch I guess, I don't even have a clue how to reproduce it.

Since the area is swiss cheesed to the extreme, there are unexplored portions, so it probably came from one of those.

Fine. Besides, if its a ravine, clear water won't be of much help anyway and I'd get better results with the brightness on max.

Ok, the point is that clear-water is unlegit because it gives you an advantage, no matter how small, if only for a second, over vanilla minecraft which is how blacraft is supposed to be played

The chamber with water turned out to be a tiny chamber (6x14x3) with a spring and a couple blocks of obsidian on the bottom.

Spawntown has almost run out of dirt. If someone else has a lot of excess dirt, it would be nice if they could move some stacks to the public storage... The more the better.

@Dan, thanks for helping with the quarry, but maybe you could avoid mining so many random pockets as it is very hard to remove the roof of these when i go through and clear the whole thing. If you like to mine only stone or something i'll strip all the dirt/sand off for you :P
