Here is a way to pack an astounding amount of healing into four inventory slots.

Including the workbench needed to craft mushroom stew, only 4 inventory spaces are needed to yield 320 hearts as needed. This allows for extremely long cave expeditions on a difficulty other than Peaceful.

You need to put brown mushrooms, red mushrooms, a workbench, and bowls in the four slots. The reason it can heal 320 hearts is because the maximum stacks for all four materials are 64 and each bowl of mushroom stew heals 5 hearts, and 64 * 5 = 320.

Next update to include Beds.

In Single Player beds will allow you to skip the night and acts as a spawn point.
