Solar Sails
« on: May 23, 2015, 04:34:24 AM »
I had an idea while watching Mars catapult out of the Solar System due to high timestep+eccentry:

What if there was an object that would change velocity based on light exposure and light intensity?

Im not sure. I guess it would spiral away from the sun or a star it is orbiting until gravity matches the push of the light. I think NASA just launched a test solar sail a few days ago.

Solar Sails are a feasible thing if I remember correctly.

They are, but for them to work you need to get them going at a high velocity first. Other then that they're great because they dont really need that much fuel
