Alpha 14 Now Available - February 26, 2015
« on: February 26, 2015, 10:34:23 PM »
If you already own Universe Sandbox ², just run Steam to update to the latest version.

Or you can buy Universe Sandbox ² here:
http://universesandbox.com/buy/

What's new?
We return to our monthly release schedule with a major focus on fixing bugs. Alpha 14 also includes a first pass of total fragmentation, which can best be seen with the re-enabled exploder tool. We also improved performance on slower machines and made more improvements to the user interface.

Complete List of Updates

Let us know what you think! And please report any problems either with the in game feedback tool or by starting a new thread...

Exploded Mars and got an iron core remnant. Then some fragments of silicate rained down upon it. Very cool. :)

1 thing I noticed. Stars don't seem to change colors with temperature. Other than that, great job on the update. :)

I will try it when it will be possible to set up a binary eclipse system with planet bounded to the common center of mass  ;)

The save simulation is not working for me. Suns and planets appear all black black. Dont know the other things. Dont know why happens. I tried with pause simulation and otherwise but nothing.

pedro808, we disabled saving in the latest update. It'll be enabled again once it's working better.

If you're having graphical issues can you please post a topic with your logs attached on the support board?

Thanks for your asnwer Jar. Well FPS are high and graphics seem really good. Really looking forward the save system so i can start working. Also i tried a trick =  Ctrl + A ( with3-9 planets and one star ) then copy and paste. And looks like the heavy mass body or main body is always coming bug.
Anyway hope in Alpha 15 will work.

Just pushed a very minor update 14.1a. There was a problem with the feedback system and we also fixed the labeling of the carbon dioxide values in the Climate tab.

We're in the middle of another major physics overhaul, so don't think this is all we've done since then.

Does these updates get pushed to steam automatically ? or do we have to manually download them?

Steam will automatically download the latest update once it's available.

Um, is there any chance that in the next release you could re-add the feature to have your own textures added to planets? I'll also make a thread for this if no one answers for a long time. I really liked that feature for the original US, and I was a bit sad to see that in the new it's impossible to do  :(

Since US2 works on 3-D heightmaps instead of textures, it'll probably be a while till that's a thing.

What if we have normal maps for planets and/or the bump maps that correlate to this? I don't see how it wouldn't be any different than the "model" feature in the original US, except modified for specifically nearly-spheres...?

It indeed may be a wise idea to add a "HeightMap/Texture" toggle switch to improve stability for people who don't have the best computers.

Not what I said, but I guess that would be a good idea. What I meant was that along with the color texture, you also had a bump map and normal map (perhaps even the ability to use your own cloud maps?) That you could use all in combination, just like the maps that are already used, except yours will be custom, or they can be even higher resolution versions of the already existent maps in place.

We don't have an exact date. We're trying to resolve a few remaining bugs that we've run into. Once those are out of the way, we should be able to do a release.
