Last night I watched a smaller protest outside of Ferguson on a live stream, somewhere nearby, and it was pretty peaceful for the most part... yet for some reason there were riot police? There was nearly a policeman for every person. They shot tear gas into the crowds to disperse them, and rubber bullets at a few people. Not to mention the way police acted to them at some points when they had closer interaction, they were pretty dickish. Several people were arrested. For peacefully protesting. There were plenty of people
not rioting and burning things that got just the same treatment. Let's not let the media take the event and sensationalize it and marginalize the problem because some people are (somewhat understandably) violent.
But what people in Ferguson are doing by rioting is destroying themselves, their community, and their livelyhoods, not the police or government.
There were some businesses (in Ferguson) that were being protected by groups of protestors(? unsure on this, I recognize it's possible it's not them but that's what I got from it) because they were local and trusted. Over there, it seems they were more crazy, more people were letting out their anger and there were likely outside people with other motives.
Police in Ferguson also shot tear gas into residential neighborhoods. I'm unsure on the situation, but presumably there was no one over there.
Overall, I got the feeling the police were just high on the fact they have cool toys and power.
(this video was not last night, but gives an example)
