A Thought: Oblateness

It would be interesting to have an option in US2 that would allow the user to set the oblateness (flattening/ellipticity/etc.) of a planet. It would be even better to have a second option like "Link oblateness and rotation rate," so that fast-rotating objects (for example, Saturn) would be flattened according to their angular rotation rate. I know there are some formulas and other math that can accomplish this kind of thing. What I don't know (since I'm not a programmer) is whether it would be too big of a hassle to implement and make compatible with US2's other features. Either way, it's just food for thought.

Well the developers are working on SPH modeling which allows for planets to rip apart, flatten out at high rotation, etc., so that's a thing to look forward to.

You're right...how the heck did I forget about that? The SPH was one of the main reasons I was interested in US2 XD

It's on hold atm until they get the collisions settled.

BTW, how is the SPH modelling going? We haven't heard an update about it in a while.

Right now it is on hold, while I am focusing on cleaning up the collision code and adding back a lot of different integrators, fixing bugs and other things. Rest assured, I will be quick to showcase any new development on the SPH front ;-)
