They already have the night sky for Earth and I think they may have said something about lightning, but having comets and aurorae would be cool in Ubox3

What would also be cool is if the Ubox guys could collaborate with Vladimir Romanyuk, aka Space Engineer, the dev of Space Engine. The two programs together (even if they remain standalone programs) complement each other on so many levels. Ubox is great at simulating the physics aspects of things while Space Engine is great at visuaizing stuff.

What do you mean by evaporating planets?

You know the hot Jupiter Osiris with the evaporating atmosphere? That's one example.

Space Engineer (Vladimir Romanyuk) explains it on the second page of http://en.spaceengine.org/forum/21-1181-1

Space Engine is an excellent piece of work, and while it depicts Space and everything in it beautifully,
there is a fundamental difference between Space Engine and Universe Sandbox.

Our main focus is the accurate simulation of reality.

While striving for this, we spend many many CPU cycles on things that Space Engine does not
care about. Amazing visuals are also important but will remain a secondary priority in our efforts.

In the long run, we of course will try to give you the most stunning visuals possible,
but we will never sacrifice the simulation aspect of Universe Sandbox on the altar of flashy graphics.

That said, comets are in development and music as well as sound effects are on our roadmap  ;)

I think Dan may have already said something about oblateness. In any case, it would be a great thing to add.

in universe sandbox 2 you can set the collision mode to bounce, then set the dust produced from collisions to high, and then explode an object at very low or zero velocity so the parts stay together. gravity makes them bump against each other and make a dust generator. if you get it moving maybe the dust will somehow navigate from the dust-generating-pseudocomet although personally i haven't had much luck when i tried this

Out of curiosity, what style of music are you guys planning on putting into Universe Sandbox? :)

@Astronomical
Musically... I'm thinking about some blend of orchestral and ambient.

@mudkipz
That's an interesting way, if not stable or ideal, way to create a particle spawned. Cool technique.

Are you going to acknowledge Chris's reply? Instead you just posted about another Space Engine feature (which is a cool feature, to be fair). Does it make sense to you (or everyone) how Universe Sandbox and Space Engine are different?

While I'd prefer Ubox and SE to be unique, oblateness is physics related, so it could be in both, SE is just simulating the appearance of it while Ubox would be simulating the actual physics of it.

SE does things that Ubox isn't so good at or can't really do and Ubox does things that SE can't really do, so they complement each other.

Dan Dixon No, I'm ask you. Comets, Evaporating Planets, Oblate planets, Oblate stars, Aurorae and Musics will be added in Universe Sandbox 3 ?

Thats kinda rude, Chris is DEVELOPING US3 so he is as well versed in whats going on as Dan is, I know your native language is not English so I can see why it looks rude to me but probably not to you.  You should answer Chris on this, he doesnt post often but when he does its worth responding back ;)

vosk_01, SpaceEngineer is working on it, as you can clearly see from his posts in the thread. He has stated many times that he intends to release it by the end of the year, which means that if all goes well you'll be able to use it within 5 weeks. Don't try to make demands on him. Stop being a nuisance and let him work.

Or he is a 9 year old noob who doesn't know better :P

Anyways, I believe Dan has mentioned aurorae already and there is going to be animated stuff, so I can see that being in Ubox. Maybe not at release though, or someone could make them through modding.

I wouldn't mind there not being comets in the initial release as it's something that could be worked on at a later time.

It's still not 100% locked down what will and will not be in the initial release of Universe Sandbox 3.

That said, we've talked about all of these things and I agree they would all be awesome.

And no need for anyone to be offended... :)

He has stated many times that he intends to release it by the end of the year, which means that if all goes well you'll be able to use it within 5 weeks.

The beta will not be out this year. More info:
