Armageddon!!!
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:33:45 PM »
I wonder how the Earth will end? some think that a Gamma Ray Burst from a distant star will hit us. We can confirm that when the Sun goes red giant, it will overheat and may even absorb the earth. Many more believe that humankind will eliminate itself. I believe that the sun has a secret binary star right beyond the Oort cloud that sends meteorites into the solar system when it gets it's closest to the Sun, causing a select few to hit earth.

Gamma Ray Burst from a distant star

There fore we wouldn't be affected. A CLOSE star you mean. WR104 has an axis within 17 degrees of us.

Basically, Nemesis (wihtout the Nibiru story)? Calculations suggest, that the clost a Mars sizes object could be for us to not to see id 600 AU, Jupiter sized was like 1,200 AU away. So a browndwarf, should have been seen by spitzer.

But if this extremely dim brown dwarf only rotates around the Oort cloud once every 26 million years, then traditional methods wouldn't detect this.

I had this Nemesis topic two months ago. But who knows? I heard Armageddon is going to strike Los Angeles. The problem is not if its going to strike, the problem is when.

When... Well first you need to know with what. Therefore, If you don't know what, then you don't know where.

wat? the only armageddon i know of is the place in the middle east where the final battle between good and evil will take place but yeah it is almost a mathetical certainty that an asteroid will hit L.A. (or where it was) before the sun destroys the earth.  also did you know that the earth will only remain habitable to life as we know it for another 1 to 1.5 billion years max because the sun is slowly becoming more luminous (natural stellar aging process) eventually the oceans will evaporate.

I know, and if we didnt terraform Mars yet, it would get water.

Earth has been struck by a big meteor before, but life survived.
Life is 4 billion years old, so if here are periodic bombardments life can survive it.

Humans is another question.

But I think we don't understand the time scales. There are probably millions of years until the next meteor strikes, and even if it was going to hit us in the near future we would detect it and be able to destroy it/shatter it into pieces that would burn up in the atmosphere.

Our biggest threath is and will always be nuclear wars, when we only inhabit one weak planet.

Scientists theorise that every 26 million years a million meteorites are sent into the solar system. Only a few medium-sized meteorites make it to Earth, but they are large enough to trigger the mass-extinction process.

Yes mass-extinction, but that won't kill all of the life. :)
Also, in the future (or even now), our technology and weapons may be so strong and accurate that we could easily shoot these evil objects into pieces that would burn up in the atmosphere or have their paths so disturbed that they won't hit Earth.

I shalt not be scareth; I am prepareth to meet all the meteors in thy universe; We shalt shoot them all into quarks. ;D :P
Sorry, I just love writing in that way (even though half of it might be wrong). :P

I like your ideas and your old-ish talking. lol.  :D :D :D

But I'm not so sure you want to blow up the Oort cloud. It holds every comet that orbits the sun, and then some!

Plus, there isn't enough firepower on the Earth to blow up over a billion giant rocks!  ;) :D ;D

Some of the rock may hit shuttles/space crafts though  :P And the moon's gravity pulling them away then Earth's gravity to the Sun... lol

We shalt Mine them with Our Great Technological Power; none of them shalt survive; all shalt periseth (ok, I'm not good at past, present and all these times in my oldish language, I know :P).

How will We get Thy Great Power?
Good question. Some questions are best when not answered.

Btw I think we should try to get alot of water and send it to the Sun. The Sun could cause sun-tans (is that word the right one?) and cancer. We can't allow that to happen.

Btw thanks for the compliments about my ideas and my oldish language. :P

Perhaps we could mine the astroids, but I don't agree with your thoughts on cooling down the sun. For thy sun Is thy hope, and thee may hope no more than to bask in thy gentle light. Also, It's solar wind that causes the cancer, and UV light as well. Tanning booths are the main cause for this, though.

Then We, Thy People, Must use Our Great Might to Stop these evil tanning booths. We Shalt Put Water on them. ;) :D :) :P ;D

Err... ???

Hmm. I don't think they'll be what's going to destroy life on Earth, but it might be one of the small fine solutions for the over-population-problem. :P
(Well, they chose to use them themselves anyways... Responseability - the key to... Life) :P
