Dimensions of tnt: approximately 20x25x8 (was not measured). Went from 2 blocks below surface to 6 blocks above surface.
TNT used: 4000
Dimensions of crater:
Depth: 24m
Radius: 58
Volume: ~134,000 blocks
Blocks exploded/Tnt: ~33

Dimensions of Tnt used: 6x6x70. From 6 blocks above surface to bedrock
TNT used: 2300
Dimensions of crater:
Depth: 65m  (Size limited by bedrock)
Radius: 20
Volume: ~80,000
Blocks exploded/Tnt: ~35

I'm not sure this is a good idea.... 80,000 tnt  ;D
(For reference, less than 4,000 tnt crashed Darvince's server pretty throughly. 4,000 tnt crashed my minecraft running on 1.2 gb of ram four times until it loaded.)

I filled in the crater from last time with tnt

um about 20 crashes later i loaded the map into MCEDIT

19100 TnT unexploded
25800 TnT primed

Which means 35,000 tnt exploded give or take about 5000
