What I wish was in the next version of Universe Sandbox...
« on: January 05, 2012, 04:59:54 PM »
Hello! I hacked into Fiah Storms account today because Bla suspended my account.

I can't edit the website due to internal problems, so here is the list of improvements:

Better GUI
Right click on a star to see the spectral type, predicted lifetime, Solar Minimum/Solar Maximum, etc.
37 New achievements
Updated star catalog, now features over 500 new stars
Modding support added
Fiahs textures are now included into the vanilla game
21+ Unique spaceships under the "Spaceships" tab in add mode
Gravitational torque added
Universe Sandbox now uses the General Relativity theory
700+ Planets under the "Exoplanets/Moons" tab in add mode
Simulation mode added (skips 4/5 frames, expect it to be configurable in a later update)
48 New community systems.
Atmosphere now glows
Atmospheric pressure configurable (assume the pressure at sea level)
Objects now burn up in atmospheres
Instead of a sudden cutoff at 600 AU, light from the star depends on distance from it.
Added ability to check the distance between two bodies (click on the measuring stick in the bottom left next to the add tool, and click on two bodies.)
Universe Sandbox now randomly generates textures, which are saved in the media folder (the textures generated are Desert Planet, Ice Planet, Earthlike Planet, Venusian Planet, moonlike planet, Europalike planet, Water Cloud Jovian, Methane Jovian, Hydrogen Jovian, Uranuslike Jovian, Hot Jupiter, Brown Dwarf, Marslike planet, Iolike planet, Titanlike Planet, Mettalic Planet, Cratered Planet, Cilivilization Planet, Lava Planet)
When objects explode, instead of exploding into mini balls, they explode into randomly generated models of asteroids, Dust, and randomly generated lava textures
Collisions are updated. See for yourself, it's to awesome to describe.
30 New Objects in the "Objects" tab under add mode

Download in march.

Yeah...

It's now available and the download isn't until March. Makes perfect sense.

Um whut? Nice dream update......

Also, what did Dan edit out?

Anyways, whats gravitational torque? And the starlight cuts off at 100 AU for me, not 600, probably depends on settings though.

Dan changed the name.

Gravitational torque is when object B is put somewhere, the rotation of  object A would pull the object B into the object A's orbit. Try turning a planet into dust and watching it form rings, its sort of like that.

Okay, I understand what it means (it also sounds like the way a larger object captures a smaller one), but I'm not sure what you mean by that it's added, isn't it already in Ubox? Or at least sort of... I know there is the relation lines, but I've noticed that objects get gravitationally affected LONG before the relation line pops up.

Add ability to check the distance between two bodies (click on the measuring stick in the bottom left next to the add tool, and click on two bodies.)

That would definetly be good, even though we can do it in a crude way atm.

I've noticed that objects get gravitationally affected LONG before the relation line pops up.

Because objects still tug on other objects, even though the object may not be in the objects hill sphere.

I know that, it was just an observation involving the relation lines.

OMG WTF THAT IS A GIANT LIST.

All i want is if collisions could be more complex than just a white spot and dust.
if  u could actually make a crater if u shoot a asteroid or comet at a planet then a fireball going around a part of it depending on the  collision size. And plus if a dust cloud could cover parts of the planet

Dan do u think u can do these things?

We have some very ambitious plans for improving collisions. A little bit of snooping here: http://giantarmy.com/  ... will shed some light on them. :)

There's no secret link... :)
Make note the stuff other people have worked on. What might be useful to Universe Sandbox?
