Sleep Cycle Analysis app
« on: January 05, 2012, 10:36:54 AM »
I found this awesome app that analyses your motion while you're asleep with the iPhone's accelerometer to determine how deep of sleep you are in. Basically it's an alarm that wakes you up within 30 minutes of the time you set your alarm where you are in the lightest sleep of that period. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed and, well... awake. Basically, every other alarm clock wakes you up at the exact time you tell it to. It doesn't know how deep of a sleep you're in, it just wakes you up. Most likely you will be pretty deep in sleep when it wakes you up.

I woke up in the middle of the night for some reason and went on my iPhone and started looking at apps, I found this, and so there's only 3 hours of sleep analysis:

Where do you put it so the app will work? You move around at night.

In the app's description there is an image showing the correct placement. Along with in the app itself.

I don't have an iPhone... It looks very useful, but like bong, I really can't imagine how you'll sleep with it. *Imagines iPhone getting cruished as you move around in sleep.*

You put it near your pillow... kind of. Hard to explain.

Koltypo. Maybe cushed by a cushion?

So what if I suddenly decide to place my head right on top of the iPhone in sleep? Or right next to it, and it bounches off the bed and breaks into 347.2 pieces?... I can't imagine that it won't happen over a whole year or something.
...But I guess I just imagine that I move a lot in sleep. I don't fall off the bed either. Maybe we just don't move as much in the several hours of sleep as we I imagine.
