"Back when all grades used the alphabetical grading system, it did go from A to E. Soon primary school started using a different system - E, S, N and U which stand for Excellent, Satisfactory, Needs improvement, and Unsatisfactory. It is likely that because E was being used in primary school, they decided not to use it in further grades to avoid confusion."

try google deoxy :) this took me 14 seconds to find

My guess would be because you can just add one line to the F, and it becomes an E. So to avoid people from turning their F's into E's.

In Denmark, the grades are:

12 - "Fantastic"
10 - "Superb/excellent"
7 - "Good"
4 - "Ordinary/plain"
02 - "Sufficient"
00 - "Insufficient"
-3 - "Unacceptable"

:P

Tell that to the one who made ECTS. That's why it is the way it is now. :P

Maybe we can adopt your grade system, but only if you adopt the metric system and Kelvin!!!

Because Kelvin is more used in science, and makes more sense at it starts at 0 rather than -273,15.

i don't think the average person is a scientist
or wants to tell the oven to heat up to 753.15 kelvin instead of 500
or say the boiling temp is 373.15
etc.

and have you seen the xkcd comic on convertion to metric?

It's just what they get used to, and it's not like they have to say it with two decimals, people are rarely that accurate in daily life anyway, and it isn't needed either.
You don't have to be a scientist to use Kelvin.

And no, I haven't.
