Particle Multiplier?

Can someone please explain to me what the particle multiplier does? ???

It multiplies the number of particles in planetary rings and in galaxies... And also when you explode or turn things to dust I think.
If you set it to 2, it makes double as many particles (like if you had 100 particles in a ring, it says 100*2=200).
0.5=half (100*.5=50).

That was way more simple than I thought. So I should turn it down since for some reason my US has been slowing down lately. It might even be that I changed particle multiplier and maybe forgot to put it back. What is the original setting?

The default setting for Particle Multiplier is 1 (one).
Turning this up can make some systems run much slower.
