Is that a typhoon in the West Pacific? Looks like Merbok.

Nice texture, but it needs to be about... 20% cooler. Tip: Add more hurricanes. :P

I recognized that map... it showed the Ice Age Earth, but with Atlantis. Nice texture, anyways.

Not on the dimensions, I think (as long as the images aren't huge). I've read that a power of 2 might look best (like 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096). Only a few image filetypes work, but ofc you always use .png anyway, so why even consider that. ;)

Check this article:

The top and bottom are the poles, and the middle equator. So obviously the equator part will be stretched out a lot from the original image, and the areas close to the poles will look very small when applied to the sphere. The distortion is everywhere, but biggest near equator and the poles.

Yes, think about simple geometry. There are 90 degrees from the North pole to the equator, and 90 from the equator south. 180 degrees. There are 180 degrees west and east of the meridian, 360 degrees. 180/360 = 1/2
