The crystalline/asteroids are good for economy.
The arid/gaia are good for research, and the rocky are usually your first bas3.

Rockies are best for production, they have one more fertility instead of their 1 crystal (which aren't worth anything imo).
Asteroids are only good for defense, because crystallines are so far superior on space and crystals.

I recommend to Fiah: Don't try to get a whole system. Everyone want to do that, but you won't get any good result from it. All astros in a system are rarely good, and especially not in those systems.
The only good astros there are... Well, there isn't one single "perfect" one. Your home planet is acceptable, and the gaian moon in orbit 4 is what comes closest to another useful astro, ok for research, but it would had been much better in orbit 1 or 2. I recommend you scout systems carefully if you want useful planets, or look at the astro board on our guild page if you're joining the Blaxian Space State again.

Well it's not that lucky. Orbit 2 is ok, it gives +1 fertility but -1 solar energy compared to orbit 1. Metallic is not as good as rocky, because building something which only gives +1 economy is just a waste of space - economic centers give 3 economy later on, and all the construction buildings give the same or more economy, plus they increase your construction and production capacities as well. The metallic pays for its crystals by having 1 less fertility than rockies.
As for it being a moon, that probably depends on whether you want to upgrade later on. Then moons are probably best, especially on production astros, because of their cheaper defenses and unristricted levels of terraforming and multi-level platforms. Otherwise planets are probably best, because they have more space.

But I also have a few imperfect planets. It's not a disaster, especially not to have one. It doesn't make a huge difference, as long as they're not glacial or oceanic or something ridiculous like that. :P

You can get an MDP, but not an alliance, as the Blaxian Space State cannot allow foreign space states to have influence over who they choose to attack.
