Unbelievable New "Doomsday"
« on: May 22, 2010, 10:30:42 PM »
I disagree with this kid in school that a doomsday will happen on 2011. He says that Thor (a big thing with a hammer) will kill everyone, but that's just a bunch of baloney. That will never happen.

This is a Greek myth.

Yes, in Danish Thursday it's called Torsdag. :P
Even though we spell Thor Thor too.

Wednesday = onsdag, from "Odin" I think... Another god.

Dag means day. I learned something new, I think.
Monday came from the word "Moon".
Sunday came from the word "Sun".

Today is Sundae. Time for Sundaes! HAHAHAHA! JUST KIDDING!

Exactly.

Even though 'sun' means 'sol', and 'day' means 'dag'.

No. You can't pronounce an Ø.
Hmm... I don't know how to explain it. It's an unique sound.

Yes you can pronounce an Ø.

http://translate.google.com/

Choose English as the language you are translating from, and Danish as the language you are translating to, and put in Sunday. Click the speaker next to the translation, and you'll hear the Ø.

I meant that you [people from other countries] probably can't pronounce an Ø.

But yes, that's how an Ø sounds.

It's nearly a U, but not quite.

It's not closer to U than it is to O.
I'd say it's a mix between O and E. Before we used Ø, we wrote OE instead.

I don't get Ø anymore.

THANK GOD WE ONLY HAVE A, E, I, O, and U as our vowels.

Btw, I don't want to learn Spanish, because I think Mexican people are bad...

Wow, from the Unbelievable New Doomsday, to a catchy day called Thorsday, to Sundae and Sunday, to Søndag, to pronouncing the letter Ø, this conversation has gone all over the place.

Whatever. I don't. I don't care if it's offensive, it's just I hate most Mexicans. Not your dad or my friends.

No people are bad. You can't base what you think of a group of people on a few bad examples. If you do that, then it's you who's bad.
I hate all Americans now. (I don't)

Yes, that's a vowel.
Btw, "hmm" is a word in Scrabble. I find it weird.

No. It's not a VOWEL. I wasn't talking about semi-vowels.

Y isn't. It's a quasi-vowel. Sometimes vowel, sometimes consonant.
