Save as XML
« on: May 02, 2010, 04:27:36 AM »
Thanks Dan for that extraordinary version 2.  :P
The best features I like so far are the smart new interface and the ability to show and edit orbital elements.  ;D

Unfortunately the XML export seems to have been replaced by a "ubox" binary file format. I hope this is just temporary as it strongly impairs home made data transformation/generation.

Best regards,
Chris

Thanks.

I'm glad you like the interface. I've spent hours think about it and working on it. And you can look forward to more improvements in the next few weeks and months.

Unfortunately the XML export seems to have been replaced by a "ubox" binary file format.

.ubox files are just zips files with a .ubox extension/

Rename the .ubox to .zip and then open it with your favorite zip extractor. Inside is the standard .xml file that you're used to.

---

A couple other points:

You can now just double click on .ubox file to open it with Universe Sandbox.

You can also drag .ubox or .xml files into the Universe Sandbox window to open them.

---

Over the next few months I'll be adding more improvements to the .ubox file format including saving particle (dust) data and custom textures and tutorials.

G-r-e-a-t news! :D

Saving the state of checkboxes (background, trail, labels) and star colors would also be a great asset in my opinion.

Keep up nthe good work
Chris

Being able to save star temperature and luminosity would be very useful. :)

I can't seem to turn my .ubox into .xml. I don't know why though... probably it was effected when I restarted my computer...

Anyways, if you can rename the .ubox to .xml, can you do it for me? Trying to do a project... The system is below.

7-zip. You can make it a zip.

I'll try.

EDIT: Did it. But still had .ubox format.

EDIT2: Nevermind. Renamed it into .xml. But it still can't be read. Weird...

Download 7-zip, unzip it, and then take out the xml... Or unzip it to a folder. I forget how I do it. Don't rename it, unzip it. The xml is in there.
