Geeze, I thought we got away from those spambots with the forum upgrade...... (Also, this is more of an everything else thread).

A lot of spambots had registered before the upgrade without posting anything, some of the might have leaked over to after the upgrade and be able to post. Or maybe the upgrade has holes in the anti-spam measures, I don't know.

I'll admit that the spam hasn't been as bad as it was and occasionally a prolific spambot shows up.

Honestly, that is crazy talk. Five new spambot threads showed up all advertising the same thing. It's becoming less and less occasional by the hour.

also many spambots can easily register after the update.

Xriqxa, it was the same spambot. Also, you weren't here when we got flooded with spambots on the old forum version.

Could you shed some light on that situation? I must not have been around when that happened, this is only the second time that I have ever seen spam on a forum.

I've checked the registration time of a new spambot, and I can confirm that they are able to register after the upgrades.

Tolad you....

What system can possibly eliminate spambots? Surveys? No, that wouldn't work.....

No, can't think of anymore methods.

It's not as rampant as before where there would be one every day at least at times.

As for spambot protection, the situation on the Bay12 forums (which uses the same forum software as this one, same version even), is pretty good and while spambots still appear, they don't get rampant like we used to have before the forum software upgrade.

100% spambot protection is probably impossible without the adminstrator okaying every single registration. Dan doesn't have that kind of time.

I don't know what the effectiveness of the various methods are.
