i have a serious problem
« on: November 14, 2009, 02:38:34 PM »
Dan, the new beta version is really great and its much fun, but as german i have one problem.
In the old version it was somehow much easier to control evrything without knowing that much english.
The new version has many aspects, its much more options and i reached my english boarder.
At many things i don´t know what to do, because i don´t know the words

Very funny...

I will not switch to a dictionary while using a program, so thanks for your ignorance... ::)

What words in the program don't make sense? And it might not make sense even if English was your native language. :)

I'd like to make the UI accessible without any words at all. I also plan to expand the info in the tool tips to include a description of what the tool does or the value means.

Many of the science words. For example i don´t know the word accleration.
I use evrything with trial & error^^

You can already learn a lot of words just by thinking of the physical SI units which are actually named after english words.  Also Universe Sandbox seems to be a very ALT+TAB friendly software to me. ::)

How are you going to make acceleration and velocity look different?

Good question. I'm not sure I know yet.

It's got to be tough using software that doesn't make any sense. What other concepts or icon labels or descriptions don't make any sense or are confusing? This is great information for me to know. Thanks.

Also... Where are you seeing the word acceleration?

I had stated earlier that version 2 will be released in multiple languages. This probably won't happen with the initial release, but will happen shortly after the version 2 launch. Either way I am setting up the framework for multiple language support. You can see a very early example of this (which only changes a few words) by clicking on the Experimental tab under objects (the one that looks like a science beaker) and clicking "Set Language" this switches a few words between English and German (based on the file Language.xml in the data folder).

If you want an entirely pictorial UI, I'd suggest making the Acceleration button look like a body (a small circle or sphere) with an arrow coming out of it. That arrow would be getting larger the farther away from the object it is, to show an increase in velocity.

A velocity button could be the same, but the arrow would stay at a constant width.
