Oort Cloud Tutorial
« on: October 22, 2012, 12:03:11 PM »
How to make a cloud object thing.

As we can see from this image of an oort cloud object density profile, the density of objects in an oort cloud gradually increases and then decreases

(it goes up and down but it'll be best to make this simpler).

1. Pause the simulation
2. Place any object and move it to the position 0,0,0 with the third tab of the toolbar that appears when an object is selected
3. Set the dust multiplier high; i recommend between 10 to 25.
4. If you want your Oort cloud to have an inner radius of D1 to an outer radius of D2 then set the radius of this object to a distance somewhere in between D1 and D2. This formula might help determine the approximate correct distance: (D1+2*D2)/3
5. Turn object to dust (button on bottom of first tab on object toolbar)
6. Create a second object and center it's position on 0,0,0
7. If you want your Oort cloud to have an inner radius of D1 to an outer radius of D2 then set the radius of this object to a distance somewhere in between D1 and D2. This formula might help determine the approximate correct distance: (D1+D2)/2
8. Turn time step to an extremely low amount
9. play for a second and then pause
10. now enlarge the radius of the object to D2
11. Turn the dust multiplier to something between 5 and 20.
12. Turn object to dust
13. Create an object centered on 0,0,0
14. Make it's radius equivalent to D1
15. play for a second and then pause
16. Delete object
17. place object at position 0,0,0 (optional)
18. Oort cloud complete

(if you use auto-orbit, the oort-cloud will turn into a ring).
