I plan to release a buggy, undocumented alpha version by October 1, 2009.
(this will require a manual download)

Releasing anything requires quite a bit of time.

In order to make the December release date I am only promising a single release prior to the official version 2 release (by October 1, 2009).

Alpha = Buggy
Beta = Almost done, just a few bugs.

Alpha Testing: Testing a software product which is not the final version.This software does not have to necessarily contain the full functionality required for an appliation however core functionality to accept input an generate output is required.

Beta Testing: Beta Testing is last stage of testing where a product is sent outside the company or offer the product for free trial download.

There is no Beta for November 1st

Dan will release a buggy copy on October 1st which in a sense is like a beta.

Not stupid at all...

Although I'm not really distinguishing between beta and alpha, what I release on October 1 will be more like an alpha.
