Upper Ares? I wonder what that planet classification looks like.....

And I wonder if you made that classification up or borrowed it from somewhere.

Sounds better than large mars or giant mars since the first one just sounds odd or something and the second one is kind of redundant, maybe.

What method are you using to create these textures?

I generated like 30 textures, and from there I just combined them in different ways and stuff.

Hmm... do you have any tips for making gas giants (and cloud maps for terrestrial planets)?

I use this.

And I just reuse cloud maps. but you can also flip them too.

If you flip them, you'd also have to flip them vertically so that it looks realistic. :P

What about planets like Venus?

If you can't see through an object's atmosphere, making a texture for it is a lot like making a texture for a gas giant.

Venus has an extremely slow, retrograde rotation, so it has a "Y" shape instead of bands of cloud. Tidally locked planets should have similar patterns.

Hmm, that effect seems slightly noticeable from Saturn to Neptune, so gas giants on the edge of the tidal lock zone might have that pattern.

Because we can.

Also, just to make things worse, that system would be spaces equivalent of Phoenix. Important.

Also, this:

Hmm... I've tried FT Pro, but it tends to make "stringy" continents which don't look very realistic.
I like this http://www.ridgenet.net/~jslayton/wilbur.html for making planetary heightmaps: its "hetero terrain" feature still doesn't follow plate tectonics, but at least you can get the coastlines to look semi-realistic.

That's not very many spacecraft, Fiah... Unless they all have people inhabiting them, of course.
