We're lucky that we can still see the Milky Way and Andromeda clashing in 2.5 billion years  :D

The sun is so small compared to the red giant.

the sun has a one million to one chance the sun won't collide with another star unless there's a blue supergiant

Well...I'm pretty sure Rogue stars are rare as we are pretty far from the center...the chance of a star getting swung from the center of the galaxy and hitting us is pretty low..in my estimation.

But not impossible.

2.5 billion years from now the Milky Way & Andromeda will most likely collide, but stars are so small and far apart that there's very little chance of our Sun colliding with another star.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andromeda%E2%80%93Milky_Way_collision

5 billion years from now the sun will explode, although I read that the sun will get about 10% hotter every billion years. This will be a problem in as little as a hundred million years. A proposed solution was to swing an asteroid near the earth just close enough to nudge the Earth further away from the Sun. This is something we (as a species) will have to do once every 10,000 years in order to outpace the warming of the Sun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun#Life_cycle

Visualizing the life cycle of stars is a long term goal I have for Universe Sandbox.

That asteroid thing will work until the Sun becomes a dwarf, I don't know if you could get the Earth in a stable orbit fast enough

Even if we survive the Sun and its Bloating..we will lose our atmosphere when it sheds its heated gas creating a beautiful Planetary nebula..but unless we are out of the solar system we won't live to watch it.

you must think that red giant sun may be 3 times bigger than the normal sun. that red giant is 1 time bigger than the normal sun.

The red giant equals 1 AU you know. So the Earth goes to 1.7 AU (passing Mars' orbit, 1.5 AU)

i think all inner planets were engulfed at 3.65 AU.

a while ago i wuz watchin this channel about the sun ok this is wat scientists belive happens (roughly):
1.the sun has a chemical reaction in its core involing hydrogen
2.sun turs into red giant (rg)
3.earth either narrowly misses the rg's orbit's gravity pull or get sucked into it
4.earth is heavily burned all humans ded/earth is gone
5.rg sucks up all planets up to mars...
6.rg turns ito white dwarf. ;D ;D ;D :o :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'( :D ;) :)

Well Mars doesnt get sucked in. If Im correct on my last post, Mars may survive. Earth has 50% chance of getting swallowed by the sun.

That would be the same size. Sunx1=Sun
Sunx2=2 suns.

The planetary nebula produced by our sun will not be spectacular, it will must likely be spherical and dissipate after a couple million years.
