According to Notch, Minecraft will go beta on December 20. From then, the cost will double, and buying the game will no longer guarantee that you get all future upgrades for free.

The Minecraft website has been changed...
And if anyone doesn't have the game yet, or is going to give one to someone else, you might want to get it before December 20, as all accounts from then and on will cost twice as much, and future updates are not guaranteed to be free.

This makes me concerned. Notch is wading around his office in money from purchases alone, I don't think he should make users pay for updates as well.

Notch wanted to keep guaranteeing it in fact, but some other people were concerned, and he decided not to guarantee it. I think it's unlikely that he'll charge money for upgrades, definitely he won't from small ones.

That's what I did with my gold straight away.
In other news I have struck Diamond. It is now time to progress the story of Minecraft and notch (no pun) my difficulty up. That's what I do, I start on peaceful to get my bearings then work up.
