USF Map Continuation I - (2) Asia
« on: April 10, 2016, 02:16:32 PM »
Since I'm too lazy to write a post, I'll use viperhawkz's post from Map Continuation 2016 in the alternatehistory forums. Some rules have been adjusted.

Quote
It has been many moons since the last Map Continuation - as far as I can tell, anyway - and since I remember enjoying them, I've decided to attempt to get the ball rolling again.

So begins Map Continuation [IV].

RULES:
  • To take a turn, you must first make a claim. You may not post a map in the same post where you make a claim. You also may not post a map until the claims ahead of you have all been posted.
  • When it is your turn, make sure you are up to date on all previous turns. Pay attention. We don't want people arguing because they both drew a country overlapping the same land.
  • Only one country per turn.
  • If a person doesn't do their turn after 24 hours has passed from the previous turn, then that person will be skipped.
  • Borders you draw must be one pixel thick, and should be #363636 (a dark gray, close to black).
  • You can only draw in the white areas. Do not draw in the gray, that's out of bounds. Do not draw over couthat have already been added to the map.

GUIDELINES:
• Avoid space-filling empires. Having a continent blobbed over with just a couple of countries does not an interesting map make.
• Try not to make anything too absurd. Strict plausibility is probably going out the window fairly quickly, but that's no excuse for having the Iroquois colonize China.
• Respect the PoD, and keep butterflies in mind. If the world diverged in the Middle Ages, plopping down a Pharaonic Egypt would be highly suspect at best. Likewise, keep in mind that things like socialism/communism and fascism will probably have different names if they exist at all.

Also when you post your turn, please post the claim list to make sure that the order does not go out of balance.

Our PoD will be somewhere around the colonial era. Major colonial powers will be different from OTL (The United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, etc.), or it can have no major colonial powers at all. The "current" year will be the 1860 - older settler colonies have gained independence or semi-independence, but colonialism is still strong.

LIST:
Europe - Done (April 20th)
Asia - In Progress
Oceania -
Africa -
North America* -
South America* -

Here's the map to start:

The Swiss Confederal Republic: a militant country which strives for protection in its borders. Tired of being a battleground between major European powers, it has taken up its time to built a competent military force to fight back, and aims to establish an Alpine League.

The Empire of Burgundy somehow manages to survive, there was no succession, and it ate France and formed a colonial empire overseas.

To-Do Query:
Naru

The Republic of Sardonia is a democratic republic located in Italy. A revolt led by Lodovico Tumicelli in the mid-1700's proved successful for the Italian Democratic Movement, a movement in response to the oppressive reign of the long-ruling Sicilian king.

The Most Serene Republic of Venetia is extremely uncomfortable with the presence of the Sardonian nation, but manages to maintain a sufficient and tolerable army to fight against them. Their navy are superior to the Sardonians, but it remains to be seen if it will keep up in upcoming years. Their best bet for now is the strength within their (questionable) alliance with the Swiss and their friends within the Balkans.

"Taken" List

The Kingdom of Sergia is a nation located in north/northwestern Spain, and is the largest country in the Iberian Peninsula. It has a rather robust navy and army, and is prospering with its economy. Despite this, ethnic diversity has led to some conflict within the nation, with many groups calling for independence.

The Granadan Emirate is a small Islamic state on southern Iberia with a strong hatred for Sergia. They are one of several Islamic nations on Iberia, but they are the most powerful, having the bustling city of Gibraltar, controlling a large amount of trade in the area and throughout the Mediterranean.

The Kingdom of Brittany is a rather average Western European nation, with some colonies here and there and a delicate series of treaties designed to maintain its sovereignty. Their long-standing relationship with Burgundy has begun to turn a little sour over colonial disputes.

fiah last night said somewhere between 1000 and 1500 so i was assuming it was earlier (since if it was in the 1400s then granada's destruction was inevitable by that point)

The Kingdom of Aragon is allied to their neighbor, Sergia, and is a longtime rival of Granada and other Muslim kingdoms. They fiercely oppose the Muslim presence to the south, and wish to one day finish the Reconquista.

The Kingdom of Poland is an average eastern European nation with no colonies but a strong desire to have some anyway, with many relics of an older, grander era throughout the country, affecting even its borders, with the many exclaves.
