Screenshot showing the effect of Jupiter on a "slice" of asteroid belt located between 2 and 3.3 AUs from the sun, leading (I hope) to gaps caused by orbital resonance.

Hmm, I'm unable to get my belts any bigger than the default sizes. I try changing it with no luck

You may change the size in the XML file. You need to use the <Action> tag, for example:
