It is Easier to be Polite on the Internet than in Real Life
« on: October 29, 2014, 07:18:06 AM »
When submitting a post/comment/message on the internet, it all comes out at once. You can always go back, fix that, maybe change this a little, etc.

In real life, however, you have to sort of make it up as you go along. You might say something you may have not meant to, or maybe it just "came out wrong".

I wish people would stop abusing anonymity and actually be serious on the Internet.

It's not behavior directed towards being mean that becomes more common, it's brutal honesty becoming more common, and it's also that in real life those people are too intimidated by the fact that they'd have to go up to the person and shout it in their face or otherwise convey their hurtful message. Instead, they just sit alone and do whatever they do, probably look at their phone and look at generic funny images.

I do agree with the OP though, the internet in general has more intense emotions in that the text can be manipulated over the course of several minutes to convey as effective a message as is possible, but it is less so as all body language and other such things are lost. Real life demand spontaneity, so those of us who are slow at doing things "in the moment" can't participate as much, but online they can reach their full potential as it is a much slower medium. Our spontaneity may also lead us into trouble, both online and offline, such that terrible consequences come of it, if it veers off into the wrong direction.

It's nothing to do with brutal honesty; it's just people being assholes for God knows what reason.

Once lived a certain pone, In The Lands long ago
She was rich and potent, her eyes a flaming glow
Most slaves looked at her, with terror and with fear
But to Cleona, she was but a louses' ear
She could command them like a general, filled with power and desire
But she was also the kind of devil
That deserved to be put on fire

Ra, Ra, Rarity
Holder of a million slaves
There was a pact that really was gone
Ra, Ra, Rarity
The worlds' faithless money machine
It was a shame how she treated them

She ruled all the land, and forget the CRV
And the parties she hosted where the knees of bee
In all affairs of state, she was the pone to please
But she was real great when she had a skull to tease
For Celestia, she was no wheeler dealer
Though she'd heard the things she'd done
She believed she was a godly trader
Who would trade all her stuff

Ra, Ra, Rarity
Holder of a million slaves
There was a pact that really was gone
Ra, Ra, Rarity
The worlds' faithless money machine
It was a shame how she treated them

"This one's just got to go!" said the CRVs
But the traders begged "Don't you try to do it, please"
No doubt this Rarity had many export routes
Though she was a brute, they bought all her fluff
Then, one day, some unjust gryphon
Set a trap, they're not to blame
"Come to visit us" they kept demanding
And she really came

Ra, Ra, Rarity
Holder of a million slaves
They drugged her 'til they filled her head with stupor
Ra, Ra, Rarity
She slept it off and said "I feel super"

Ra, Ra, Rarity
Holder of a million slaves
They didn't quit, they wanted her head
Ra, Ra, Rarity
The worlds' faithless money machine
So they struck the sickle 'til she was dead

Oh, those rebels...

What am I doing with my life, parodying Boney M. songs...

In real life according to my family members I'm blunt and rude when talking to others, this is probably because I believe in be 80% honest with others depending on what the situation is...
