[SUPPORT] How to change Camera Angle
« on: October 16, 2014, 10:09:05 AM »
Hi all

When using US2, it is easy to go closer or further from the objects, but I can not find the way to just increase or decrease the camera angle.

To explain it better: Imagine you are looking just Moon and Earth, and Moon is in front of Earth. If you go closer, both Moon and Earth increase in size, but Moon increases size faster than Earth, so It can become bigger on screen than Earth.

This is perfect application of perspective rules! Thanks for that! It is awesome!

But (there should be a but... should it not?) imagine that you have found the exact size relation between Moon and Earth, e.g. that one in which both are of the same size on screen, but they both are too small. If you go closer you lose the relation since Moon grows bigger than Earth. What I need is a way to increse the size of both of them on screen, vithout changing the point of view, that is, getting a better zoom instead of going closer.

Thanks

So basically you mean FoV editing?

I do not know what do you mean by "editing", but yes, changing the field of view is what I need. Zooming in and out from the same point of view instead of going closer and farther with the same zoom level.

Sounds interesting...

Would help with the education-y bit as well.

What if you could add/remove cameras? As in, your eyes? Like if you only had camera "eyes" pointing in all directions you'd have an oddly distorted image.

What? Don't tell me you've never wondered how a spider sees.

I do not care (at the moment) about multiple cameras because on Pause I can move the simulation and get different Points of View screenshots, or I can rerun it (have not tried) and get different movies of the same success, but it is a great idea.

But modifiying single-camera field of view is a first step. Having a non-perspective camera would be a second one, for educative animations.

I'm talking about viewing through all cameras at once for a blended image.

There's no way to change the FOV currently in Universe Sandbox ².

This should be fairly straightforward to add... I've written up the task (to add a FOV angle option) and hopefully we can get this to you in one of the next updates.
