Well, they can't debate the actual topic, that's why. That being said, "acknowledgement of a great thing a dog did"...again, what rational reasoning do you have to state a dog knows it's doing a "great" thing or any other noble acts, that justifies rational human beings to acknowledge the dogs actions?
If a dog ran across the road to crap on your lawn and it caused a child in the middle of the street from getting run over, are you going to say with a straight face that the dog should be honored as a hero, given the key to the city, ticket parade and appearances on Oprah? Sorry, but raising animals up to a level to suggest a conscious action of noble motives degrades real acts of heroism and self sacrifice by humans.
