the element blapis, found in blapis ore, is generated in blaists for an unknown reason. The rarest isotope, blapis-44, may spontaneously beta-decay or even double beta-decay (look this up on Wikipedia). Under the exactly right conditions, a beta-phemy may be triggered where dozens of high energy electrons are emitted at once. The weak interaction involved may exceed 100 MeV, causing the formation of muons. this has caused a flurry of research and it now appears that muon catalyzed cold fusion that could solve world enery crisises is now plausible and possibly economical. (muon cold fusion is real- look it up on Wikipedia).
Of course there is debate to whether blapis should e laboriously mined or if we should just harvest blaists...
(as little handwavium as possible was used in this and many things, like muon formation, double beta decay, and muon catalyzed fusion, is more or less true.)
