Well, we're going to have a screenshot thread sooner or later, so I'm starting it up. I don't have any screenshots right now though.
Post pretty much any Alpha screenshot you want.

here are some screenshots
the solar system goes supernova
-
this is what remained of the planets 40000 years later
-
the supernova created a "second oort cloud",it would mix with the other oort cloud and create 1 cloud more bigger
EDIT:i forgot the screenshot lol
oh and last screenshot is venus that i dont see it very afected

How did you do that ? If I move the Earth closer or farther from the Sun nothing will happen.

The sun gets 10 G Years Older

Yes i just edited the properties, but i would like to that happen by its own

I changed the properties, the climate simulation doesn't boil away water or melt rock planets

Ah, ok. I thought something was wrong with the game. Probably in the future we'll see things like that.

I've replaced the sun with a larger star to simulate the Solar System within the next couple billion years, when the sun begins to expand. Earth and the rest of the inner planets are molten, and Saturn is in the habitable zone. I placed a planet within Saturn's orbit to show what Titan may possibly be like when it's in the habitable zone. :)

is it still like that if you delete the black hole?

Is dark matter implemented in this new version?

nope

We are aware of all the issues with collisions.
It's number 1 on our priority list and Thomas, our physics specialist, is currently rewriting the system to address these problems, but also to add more features (like space elevators).
Thank you all for testing and all the feedback!
-
I collided two moons (M = 1 moon). Take a look at the mass of the selected moon (It doesn't appear on the print screen, but it is M = 0.0239 moons). the other moon and the debris all have about the same mass. Does anyone else think that there is a lot of mass missing? I think so
-
The Earth is a little too bright, don't you think? The other stars are too far away to make such a significant difference in the night side of the planet. I'm pretty sure the developers are aware of this poblem already and they will fix it soon. (This is the nearby stars simulations. You can see the sun in the pic, the other stars are behind
-
I made mars and Earth collide, at a low velocity, so no debris was thrown into space. Check out the mass of the Earth now. It no only didnt increase because of the mass of the planet mars, but it's gotten lower.
-
The galaxy wasn't moving. I sped up the time to tear the galaxy apart and the black hole has been travelling by this random path for some reason. I think it has something to do with dark matter.
-
I think you should make the trails shorter by default. This looks kinda dirty to me
-
I've got 2 problems. I've created a solar system. This planet is 139 AU away from it's star. You can see that the star (Spica) isn't bright enough to illuminate the planet at all. And as you can see the surface temperature is -109 Cº
Then (in the second screenshot) I added 0.1 moon mass of atmosphere. It now not only is illuminated by the star, but also the temperture rose to an absurd number. I may not be an astrophysicist, but I'm pretty sure that's not accurate.
-

just upload them and then paste the link, or number them. it's fine if you don't want to change it

did you try restartin?

I collided two moons (M = 1 moon). ... Does anyone else think that there is a lot of mass missing?
Yes. Collisions are very buggy right now.
The Earth is a little too bright, don't you think?
Yes. This got fixed in Alpha 5, try it again. :)
... and thanks Gabriel for all of these bugs and reports. It's very appreciated.

Do you guys like the new atmospheres and clouds?
EDIT: I hope my bug reports are going though.

Look out! It's a newbie! Oh wait, it's just me. Anyhow, keep the awesome pictures flowing, guys! I love Universe Sandbox and I have no hope of becoming an alpha tester, so don't conceal your amazing privilege from everyone who making up weird mystic dances for summer to come quicker. Oh look, I wanna get into that anti-rain dance too!

Nice terrestrial planets! This is so exciting! I can't wait for summer!
EDIT: umm... I meant to quote that guy a little above from here with the ringed earths. Oops.

Do you guys like the new atmospheres and clouds?
The pixelation might be because your graphics settings are turned down.
Try this:
Home > Settings > Graphics Quality > Set to High
Does that make any difference?
-
My graphics are already on high ;D, do you mean switch it to a lower setting then back to high? ???
-
That wasn't what I meant, but you could try it.
Also switch it to low, back to high, then restart. Any difference?

Yes actually, the most prominent r near the North Pole, but those rings could be orbit lines. As for the dots, they r not very visible and so only a minor issue. This will inevitably be worked on in the next alpha.
-
this looks epic
also, i like the collision fragments
i really hope you guys make a mars crashing into earth to make moon simulation. i tried but the pieces just flew away and never formed anythin
more!

i like fragments
-
Pretty... Maybe we could have some images of a custom solar system?
-
We're actually in the middle of our third collision overhaul, rebuilding the foundation of the collisions system to be more robust, faster, and more accurate (and more directly linking the n-body physics with collisions). Nod to Thomas.
Once that's done, Georg is excited to begin an overhaul of the collision visual effects (glows, sparks, flashes), of which progress was frozen after we realized there would be a third overhaul of the core system.
And the past few weeks Georg has been working on crater impacts... throwing out the current system that just adds a glowing decal for a system that creates an actual 3D crater on the surface.
And we're working to make the comets and volatile trails more robust and interactive...
In short... lots of new stuff is in the works.
-
Great! It's really exciting to know that we will have something even better than we do now! Also a suggestion for the collision system: disable clouds for a certain amount of time, depending on the impact. Also an impact should lower sea level and add to the atmosphere
-

I'm thinking this is going to look a lot like SPORE... Hopefully not as cartoony!

on the first picture you can see all the edges on the model, which is kind of ugly. But, what would you expect? This is an Alpha, not to mention just a simulator. But it's too awesome to realize, keep up the great work, Dan and Co.!

Also I'm excited! I can not wait for alpha 7! You are great programmers Dan and Co.! Keep it up! ;) ;) ;) :) :) :) :) 8) 8) 8) 8)

*groan* this entire TOPIC is dying... is the US sequel going to become a forlorn forgotten idea in the realm of forlorn, forgotten ideas?

Grr... US2 is officially extremely dormant. What happened? Before I joined the forum posts were appearing like fireworks. Now, only a few posts pop up. Did I cause this? I feel like I did.

US2 is far, far from dormant. People do have lives you know, not everybody can spend all day everyday doing what they want and playing US2. But heres 2 little screenshots just for you.

Stevoodran, no need to be rude to Xriqxa. Some people missed getting on the beta and are excited about the version and this is one way for them to be a part of it until who knows when, the open beta or it's available for sale.

P.S. 2 improvements that NEED to be made: Shorter trails, and no plants when earth water level is low. That just looks messed up.

And what planet is that with the little lakes? Not Ganymede, the other one, with the red tinge?
Probably Mercury, or Mars.

Can't be Mars. Probably Mercury, but doubtfully Sedna. No, it can't be. Sedna is redder than Mars

Nice idea. Neutrons stars are in US2 but I don't think they have jets.

Stevoodran, no need to be rude to Xriqxa. Some people missed getting on the beta and are excited about the version and this is one way for them to be a part of it until who knows when, the open beta or it's available for sale.
Thaaank yooou... Finally, someone who understands.
He was a bit blunt, but he has a point.
Everyone just can't be here all day pumping out content for you. We have other things to do. As for phinehas, I don't understand why you say that when you were obviously being a jerk to the other forumers. Practice what you preach.

I think you should make the trails shorter by default. This looks kinda dirty to me
i agree. If not already done, they should be made waaaay shorter. Also they look too colorful.

I believe there is a setting to change the trail length, maybe there wasn't back in January. Trail colors will be dealt with at some point.

Still, trails should be shorter by default.
-
Theyre also variable by the timestep, but yes I agree that the default trail length could be somewhat shorter.

This whole thread makes me feel jealous.
Don't feel jealous, this is pre-release alpha. Its probably a horrifically buggy mess that's frustrating to use right now. Unstable with constant feature changes. Thats my experience with pre-release alpha stage games. This is the testing phase and those who have it are simply there to break it.

It was using the alpha 7 preview.

Great to see that they are fixed up, and more colorful I think.
Also, the fact that you have the preview of the Alpha 7 makes me a bit jealous about it, but I can wait and hopefully the preview there and the 6.7 number that means the main Alpha 7 is coming soon

One thing that bothers me is how circular the craters are. Maybe after awhile they should start to get a little misshapen? It just bothers me that there's a PERFECT circle in the middle of Africa. Also, how did the water get there? It just instantly pops up inside the crater. I think the water should accumulate over time or something. Just a couple of suggestions.
-
One thing that bothers me is how circular the craters are.
We haven't added any randomization to this yet. I agree there's not enough variety.
Also, how did the water get there? It just instantly pops up inside the crater. I think the water should accumulate over time or something.
Good question. This is a hard one, as we're simulating the water level globally with a single level. I just asked Georg about ways we could address this in the future.
Just a couple of suggestions.
Always welcome. Thank you.

It is confusing(I've been thinking about it for awhile), but is it possible to make it so that when a meteor or other object hits the planet, it creates a crater in the planet's surface AND the water? And then the water slowly goes back to its original shape? It's still seems pretty hard to do, but I'm just thinking out loud here.
P.S. I'm new to the forums and this game is freakin' awesome! Good work guys!

pretty cool. used the ceres -> earth collision simulation. however, when i did it on my own (moon into earth) the sea did not disappear. Is there a way to make this happen all the time.

You have to turn off the climate model, or else it wont work.

Sagittarius Rainbow*
obv collisions are still uber iffy. my niece was playing because YAY STARS and she put VY Canis Majoris next to a Sagittarius A*. they collided and two pieces were left: Sagittarius A* and a fragment of it measuring at a whopping 240,000 suns. weirdest part: after the initial collision, A* started "exploding" (like the surface of a star does when they're about to flare) and this rainbow band formed around it.
glitch af but pretty just the same. <3

In this simulation, the Earth is at 1000ºC and you can see that the properties menu says that water is in the plasma state. Needless to say, water can't be plasma. The temperature is not high enough. If water was plasma, then the Hydrogen should be plasma too

I've just discovered that objects (or fragments at least), when respawned via the undo function, look like translucent balls of energy.

All those collision pics look so awesome. They could be used to advertise us
-
Yeah I had to modify the collision settings some and Increase the Maximum Particle count to 5000 and the Simulated body count to 600, the default settings just dont do the collisions justice.
Most of the collisions were done at time steps of 0.05 second per second, because the collisions engine seems to fail horribly at higher time steps.

One of the new 32 body choreographies that will be available in Alpha 12...
Unlike the 3 body figure 8, most choreographies are unstable... as demonstrated in the 2nd screenshot.
-
I bet something like that exists somewhere IRL.
-
Not naturally, it require every objects to be the exact same mass.
-
Would be great to have a "Randomize Mass" button. So after setting up the choreography you hit the button and all the 32 bodies get different masses (within a given range).
-
Would be great to have a "Randomize Mass" button. So after setting up the choreography you hit the button and all the 32 bodies get different masses (within a given range).
But if you do that, the formation would become very unstable. All the bodies need the same mass most of the time to be stable.
-
I know, that's why I would love to click that button :) ....and watch how the stable system transforms into unstable.
-
Would be great to have a "Randomize Mass" button. So after setting up the choreography you hit the button and all the 32 bodies get different masses (within a given range).
Just added this. Not sure how interesting it is in practice... as only a couple of the simulations are stable anyway... and a 1% change in mass makes them almost instantly unstable. Either way... this feature will be in the next alpha release.
-
here, i made the sun 300 times more massier.
also, it's lagged out. if i click, the screen blinks and nothing happens. control new does nothing. if this keeps happeninng i'll post it to the bug section

A couple more for posterity:
1. Earth frozen over
2. High velocity impact
-
high compared to what? >:D
-
high compared to what? >:D
I assume you are referring to my second image? Well, its just that, a fast moving object colliding with a planet. As for how fast, I don't know, I didn't pay attention to how fast the object was moving. Lets say it was an asteroid or meteor, the average speed is between 25,000 and 28,000 miles (or higher depending), so the "high velocity" impact can be compared to the average speed of a meteor or asteroid.
I just think the shots look cool. :P

Recreated the HD 10180 system in the game (without the two unconfirmed planets).
The closest planet to the star is HD 10180 b, which also the only rocky planet in the system. It features oceans of lava and a long, comet-like tail. Temperature is around ~1500 °C. It's tidally locked.
HD 10180 c is the second closest, and is a hot Neptune. It glows red and also has a tail, but is much shorter then b's. Temperature is around 950 °C. It's also tidally locked.
The third planet is HD 10180 d, a hot Neptune, which does not glow red but still has a tail. It's temperature is around 500 °C. It is tidally locked.
The fourth is HD 10180 e which is another hot Neptune. It has a very faint comet-like tail. It's tidally locked and has a temperature of around 230 °C.
HD 10180 f is a hot Neptune and it also tidally locked (but only became so after around 3.20 gigayears old) Unlike the first four, it has no tail. It's temperature is around 100 °C.
HD 10180 g is a gas planet and is the only planet in the habitable zone of the star. It has a temperature of -50 °C.
HD 10180 h is the largest and outermost planet in the system, with a size similar to Saturn. It has temperature of around -104 °C.

Bonus image of habitable zone.

Also for some reason when I watched two YouTube videos about this update, near the end of both videos they both collided only two objects.
Because they both reported that the objects would collide and literally stop half way, and freeze or something.
But all that if seen, the collisions are awesome.

how i can make a pulsar?
Y'know, that's a good question, I don't know how you would create it naturally. I actually was browsing all the sims in the menu and I came across the simulation "pulsar." I opened it and started experimenting. Next, I just saved the pulsar so I can load it in any simulation I want, then you can mess with individual parameters.
If you want to open the simulation without having to search through all the thumbnails, just type "pulsar" in the search bar under "open," then it should be listed.
EDIT: As is turns out, saving the pulsar and loading it later doesn't work.
-
ah ok,thank you :)

I tried looking up pulsars on YouTube, nothing specifically came up. However, that's not to say it isn't buried in a video that was recently posted.

Well yeah.
But I've watch all the videos so far that came out for alpha 15.
But since alpha 15.1 just released, I guess there going to put out another video for it.
But they don't really look on the forums to see what all changed.
So the videos they make are pretty much blind.
So the end up just showing very little of the update, and I don't like that.
But I guess I'll have to get over it.
Thanks.

There's two types of pulsars in the program.
One has a disk around it and shoots out large practicals in a swirling motion.
The other is just the pulsar that has the jet affect (when a planet body gets to close to a star)

I present, The Alberon System!
The first image shows the main planet, Alberon A, which is roughly two and a half times larger than Earth with small seas and large desserts. It also has an unusually similar atmosphere to Earth and has a surface pressure of about 1.45 atm, but has a gravity of about 73 m/s^2 (about 7 times Earth's gravity). Alberon A's rings are a mixture of Ice (shown in white) and an odd brown material of which we cannot match to any known element.
The second image shows Alberon B, a large moon roughly 1,200km with large oceans. The Moon has an atmospheric mass of about 57 kPa and a surface gravity of about 1.5 m/s^2.
The third image shows Alberon C, another moon which is around 480 Km in diameter. Alberon C has small ice platoes in which faint glints of light can be seen from the surface of both Alberon A and B.

I think it has to do with the high resolution I used. 2160p is huge, its 4x sharper than 1080p. As an example, 2160p is the equivalent of 8 megepixels, and 1080p is 2.1 megepixels. Also, the lighting. I chose an angle that really highlighted Pluto's surface, which helps with the overall quality of the planet's topography.

How THE UBOX ARE YOUR SCREEN SHOTS SO CRISP!!!!!???
I use something called "DSR" (Dynamic Super Resoution). It up-scales my monitor's resolution to 4K, then shrinks it back down to fit my Monitor. This can only be used with Nvidia's 900 series GPU's. So, in short, it lets me up-scale in-game resolutions. And since you can take screens using Steam, the output is a very high quality, lossless (meaning no quality lost to compression, or at least, very little), and the result is a high quality screenshot.

Weird orbit glitch...

^ had that happen across an entire system, when I was making a circumbinary planetary system, it won't calculate the orbits right and gives that weird thing...Tis why I normally stick to trails...

I'm now back from my screenshot expedition, took me a while to find that perfect shot, but now I got it.

I don't think they will as this is something that will be added anyway at some point in the future. The current way lights appear on a planet is not only a bug, but probably not the way GA wants it to happen. As it stands, its either too hard to get city lights, or it doesn't happen at all.
We'll see what the future holds.

It would likely transform Trossus Minor into a cloud very quickly.
I actually love close moons/planets, but tidal heating tends to eat them in an instant.

That's awesome! How did you get so many particles? I've tried adjusting it before, but could never really get dense ejecta during collisions. :P

I have an overpowered computer, and to get dense Ejecta you need to run the simulation at near real time with 10,000+ Particles.
All Images I post were simulated with 19,000+ particles

I've got a pretty capable PC myself, perhaps I'm just not using the right settings. What options do you need to change in order to increase particle density? Where is it in the options? I must know your secrets! XD
-
Basically Just Change the Number of Non Attracting Particles to 20,000 in the settings. Then just run your collision Sim at 1 second per second.

So if i have an i7-4770k overclocked to 4GHZ and a gtx 760 do you think i would be fine running intensive collisions because it has been fine for the 120 hours i've played it but I want to increase fragment amounts

I believe the option you're looking for is "Max Non-Attracting Bodies." Its found under "settings" in the "general" tab. The default amount is 1024. Set it to 10,000 or higher so you can see an appreciable difference. Your performance may take a hit though. But that's okay, we're doing this in the name of science, of course. ;)
