When you buy universe sandbox off steam, do you have to have Steam to play it or do they just email you a code?

Yes you'll need to have steam running.

Also if i buy US off steam will i get US3 as a free update?

Yes, its a free update for everybody who has ever purchased US2 or the origional US.

Hmm? Not sure if i'm right, but the original US is now free and even if you paid for that you still had to buy US2
