Fiah: The scary thing about glass panes is that they stick to everything. If you have glass panes, you can't really place workbenches, furnaces, bookcases or whatever at them, otherwise they will attach to them, which makes no sense. So you will have to have all the interesting stuff in the center. Which can also be okay.
It would be nice if the developers set a category for what fences and panes should attach to.

Smjjames: Sandstone is a building material now, which is generated below layers of sand.
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Sandstone
If you want to spy on areas for building, you can check this map
http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120213184810/blacraft/images/7/76/World_Map.png
and mark an area where you want to build/flattify.

I don't think that bug exists anymore. Gold picks are faster than diamond now, but have very little durability, only stupid people use gold for tools. :P

Yeah, I'm seeing several large desert areas, including two huge ones to the north and south of mudkipzania.

Are there any savannah type areas? Im asking because when I went to the new map on the old server I played on, I found a savannah area that I really liked and had acacia style trees.

Also, What are the red labelled/bordered areas vs the yellow ones?

I can't really decide on a specific sandy zone atm, although I don't necessarily need a massive zone, but I'd like a location with a scenic view.

Maybe that'll work, as long as its not too hilly or mountainous or anything. Also the big forest is a plus.

What's that in the northern part of the same desert, one of the automated farms?

White borders are states, which can contain multiple regions. Solea and Rift Auspkitan is managed by Atomic and has multiple regions, but for example the Union of Blacraft Socialist Regions contains many regions which different people manage.

Yellow borders are regions, which can contain multiple municipalities. Usually a region is managed/developed by one person, but they can decide themselves how to do it.

Red areas are municipalities. They're usually just names for a small area within a region, but in Yukiland/Chazabethia for example, I think Naru manages Yukitown and Darvince manages Plaidania.

I'm planning to expand into the desert south of Mudkipzania in the future, so if you want your own area, or if you don't want your villa to be a public building, you might want to build it in another place. The edges of deserts probably have the most scenic views, imo they seem sort of boring because they're usually very flat and barren without any special features since the Beta 1.8 update.
The desert near Revolutea has a generated village which could be fun to utilize, maybe (that's the area in the northern part).

Also, landscape can always be epicfied by some terraforming. :)
And you can see the height of the map showing up as higher altitudes having lighter shades, so very uniformly colored sandy areas are flat.

I left before the 1.8 update, so I remember the deserts as being extremely hilly. The one where that village is looks very flat while the two near mudkipzania look moderately hilly. The northern one of the two has what looks like a rocky outcrop, or maybe it's just an area devoid of sand.

Anyways, I'll certainly want my own area. The villa will probably be a public building. Honestly though, I'd have to look around to see where I want to establish myself.

What's Vatallus? It's separate from everything else.

Are the lava lakes any use (besides making obsidian and as a source of lava) I'm seeing several in unclaimed regions....

The rocky outcrop is an area where the terrain generator failed to place the layer of sand and sandstone.

Vatallus is a region mainly Mudkipz is building in. He has a project going on about making a circular volcano mountain range with a city in the center (I, Bong, Naru and possibly others have also made some of the volcano). It is a part of the UBSR, but it's hard to draw the borders in a way which makes sense when regions don't border the rest of a state.

Lava can be used as fuel in furnaces.

I wonder how the villagers would react to me deconstructing their town.....

Depending on what's there, I could perhaps utilize it somehow. I did read the wiki article on the villages and I get that they'll attack if attacked (obviously) and could get angry if you raid them.

The area to the south and mostly to the southeast could use some exploration.

In any case, it looks like my region will have to be what's the equivalent of unexplored frontier. The area to the west of Novascotchania looks interesting (if you don't mind me having the southernmost tip area of the desert you claimed), the unclaimed regions to the southwest and the east also interest me. But what can I say, I like exploring :)

We could expand roughly like this, if you want some forest as well. I just need a way out of our central regions so I don't end up being locked if people keep founding regions around spawn. :P

The villagers are completely defenseless currently and don't attack people.

But don't worry too much about regions. You can explore and build as you like outside them, and then if you find an area you like, it can be your region. If you want to build within current regions, just ask the one who manages it first.

@bla: Yea that'll work also  on the village, maybe

@fiah: thanks :)

From what fiah said, looks like spawn is walled off in the southeast by other territories anyway.

Also, always cut down ALL of the tree. Not the upper half, not one block sitting up in the air, ALL OF THE TREE!

Got it? :P

Yea I got it, although the server that I played on had a mod with magic abilities (they worked in a way similar to hex circles or something) and there was one which cleared all the leaves in a certain radius.  Useful for finding those single floating blocks covered by the canopy.

Anyways, I always tried to get the whole tree if I possibly could. I'll also try to replant the area if necessary.

Also, how common are the endermen on your server? i read the wiki and they sound kind of nasty, hard to kill (unless that got changed) and challenging to avoid.

Leaves decay if there's no wooden block connected to them nearby.

Endermen are somewhat rare, but they aren't dangerous, as they only attack if you look directly at them (with your mouse cursor) or attack them.

I know, it's just that if there are lots of floating blocks or lots of leaves, it can be time consuming to find the wood blocks. Still, in this case, prevention is the best measure by cutting down the whole thing.

Don't replant them please

Wasn't sure if they spawn normally or if players need to replant the forests. It has been a while, over a year, maybe two, since I've played minecraft. I'll just dump the seedlings and let them despawn.

Do replant saplings unless you want to run out of wood, or just build a tree farm and keep it away from Fiah. And trees only spawn from new chunks and saplings. ¬_¬

Depends on what fiah wants to do with that land, if he wants it deforested and not replanted, not my problem.

Besides, I haven't decided on the area i want to claim yet, there's several areas that look promising.

just bring flint and steel to burn down the rest of the tree that won't be cut down :P

and pine hill tree farm is easily accesible and very nice, it's safe from mobs too.

At the risk of starting a forest fire, the canopy is connected in several swaths.

Anyways, I've kind of narrowed things down to either west of novascotchara to south and southwest of the combined solea and rift auspiktan region or the swath to the east.

Do you have a z-axis view of the map? There was a screenshot several pages back that came from that kind of map.

Do you mean an isometric map or heightmap?

Here's an isometric one:
http://zoom.it/w4ip

The heightmap is probably from before 1.8, it's on the wiki.

You can always were a pumpkin if you are walking at night. The pumpkin slightly covers you view, but you could press f7 and get third person view. Pumpkins stop enderman form attacking you. (but if you attack them, they will attack back pumpkin or no pumpkin)

"If the player wears a pumpkin on their head or looks at an Enderman through a transparent block such as glass, ice, leaves, or fence posts, it will not turn hostile when looked at. Once provoked, however, wearing a pumpkin will not prevent them from attacking or teleporting."

Yeah, the isometric one is what I mean. When does it update? It doesn't seem to show some of the newly explored areas such as the area west of hondara. On the flat map, you can see a slash which has a magma pool in it, but I can't see it on the isometric map. It's possible that it's obscured though.
