"Steam required" even though I'm already running Steam

The game keeps saying that I need to be running steam, even though I am. I've tried verifying the cache files, uninstalling and redownloading, all that. Screenshot attached.

Sorry, are you still having this issue? It occasionally affects Steam games, and the issue seems to go away after a bit.

Sometimes it's fixed by restarting Steam or your computer, and making sure Steam is up to date. Also make sure you are launching Universe Sandbox ² from within your Steam Library.

Let me know if it's still not working.
